I joined Ancestry.com to access my family history. I was born in Dayton, OH in 1938. We lived in Parkside Homes from 1942 - 1946. Where could I find some photos of Parside Homes to add to the Scrapbooks I'm doing for my family? Thanks, Sue in CA

Sue,
My husband spent a few years at Parkside homes in the 1960's with his family. He said it was a good place at one time wonderful people and safe for kids.
He would love to see any pictures also.

I drove by there just last week and it was so weird. You can't tell there was ever a housing development there now. It's all grass and trees.

My family lived at Parkside Homes during the war years. I remember helping my Dad work in our Victory Garden. I was 6 years old in 1942. I don't remember the name of the street in Parkside, but we lives there until after the war. Of 5 kids, there is only myself and my sister left and she doesn't know the name of the street either. Our last name was Harman. My sister and I went to McGuffy school. I'm trying to locate my parents in the new 1940 census just released, but I need a street name right in the complex to establish an emuneration number. If you can help, let me know.

My husband lived there in the late 60's and early 70's.
He lived on aliance place also.
He recalls a street called Park place as well. Does this ring a bell with anyone else? He said possibly there were streets with names dealing with fruit like apple street or plum street.

lived at 1026 akron pl,from 1946 to 1962. parkside was beautiful then, mostly working families. we lived a stones throw away from downtown, also skateland,mc cook bowling alley.......loved my early childhood memories of the ball games in old mc cook field. this neighborhood changed for the worse in the middle 60's......eventually not even a mailman wanted to be around those still living there, sad :(

I had never been to Parkside Homes until after I returned from Vietnam in 1971. Met a friend who lived there and visited him. Never really went back, but drove past numerous times and saw it decline rapidly. Sad, really. I mean, they were brick buildings and you think they could have been renovated. It went from working families to welfare families and I think that explains a lot. Drugs, etc., very prevalent.

I remember also when Parkside was fairly nice still back in 60's. Had a friend who lived there and spent alot of time talking, drinking, and letting the kids play.Drugs and crime took over and it deteriorated quickly.Just a sign of the times as rest of country took the same walk.

I lived at Bexley Pl when I was 13 - 15 years old (1967-69) at the time there was some crime there. I ran away from home when I turned 16 lived with hippies over off Salem on Niagara Ave and never went back to Parkside.
