Pampero Firpo's real name is Juan Kachmanian. He never lived in Ohio ... although he did wrestle the "Big Time Wrestling" circuit (Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia) for Ed Farhat (The Original Sheik) throughout the 1970s. I saw quite a few great matches with him against Sheik, Bobo, Johnny Valentine, Tex McKenzie at Hara Arena and the Cincinnati Gardens! Juan, I think, always made his home in California. From what I understand, he is a postal worker in San Jose to this day.

I wonder if Pampiro Firpo has went postal and used the 'El Garfio' (The Grip?) on anyone in California.

I remember some of the other famous moves or holds used by the Big Time Wrestling wrestlers at Hara Arena:
The Shiek used the Camel Clutch.
Bobo Brazil used the Coco Butt.
The Stomper used the Sleeper.
Flying Fred Curry used the Drop Kick.
Bull Curry used whatever he could (brass knuckles, etc.).
Killer Brooks used his elbow pad (with metal inside).

Big Time Wrestling was great, wasn't it? There were some great stars who wrestled at Hara Arena for Sheik. Remember Lord Athol Layton? Cowboy Bob Ellis? Tex McKenzie? Tony Marino? Johnny Valentine? Lanny and Randy Poffo (later to be known as Leaping Lanny and Randay "Mach Man" Savage)? Abdullah the Butcher?

Wasn't there some crazy lady in the audience named "Bulah" or something like that? I'm sure she was staged. She used to get up and harrass the wrestlers, or am I having a 60's flashback.?

It's funny you posted the ? about Bouncing Bulah. She was a neighbor of ours when I was a child. I don't remember her but my mom has spoken of her before. My understanding is that she really did get worked up at these events, but the promotors encouraged her to "play " the part. I will have to call my mom and ask her about it. This was in the early 50's.

I remember going to a boxing gym in the Oregon district to watch raslin'. That and the old Channel 22 studio ( Stroop Road right by Cassano's Pizza) use to have raslin' televised.

The crowd favorites as I remember were: the Stomper (my fave), Flying Fred Curry(Bull Curry's estranged son), BoBo Brazil, The Mighty Igor(another fave), Haystacks Calhoun, Andre The Giant, Tony Marino, and, the 8th wonder of the world, Pampero Firpo, whose opponents would be hurled around the ring while holding onto his hair. Oh, Yeah!!

The villains: The Sheik, Wild Bull Curry, Killer Brooks, Abdullah the Butcher, Ka Buki(sp),

Favorite match: The Mighty Igor vs. The Sheik(including folding chairs and unidentified foreign objects)
Favorite tag team match: The Stomper and Flying Fred Curry vs. The Sheik and Wild Bull Curry--they were still fighting as the program ended.
Great stuff!!

I remember sitting around watching "Pro Wrestling" (featuring "The Shiek", "Gorgeous George" and the rest, with a bunch of High School pals one of whom was a top wrestler at Wayne. During a commercial break, I asked him if he planned to go "professional" He gave me a sock in the shoulder. It REAllY hurt.
I didn''t pursue the matter further....
