When I think of history and legacy, I think of my father, Paul "Easy" Arnold, Lead Singer for the Sensational Dayton Gospelaires. Paul was a pioneer in the Gospel Industry and attained fame in the 60's with his albums and records. There have been several churches that have had programs to remember him. Yet, I have always wanted to know why "Black" artist receive more recognition in Europe and Asia than they do in the United States. I have researched the website, an there are (3) book in the public library that mention my father and the group. I have received emails from Germany by people who remember their tour and want to bring back his music. "The Gospelaires" also have (3)videos on You Tube. My father was always referred to as "Dayton's Own Native Son", he was born and raised in Dayton. He joined Mt. Olive Church when Rev. McFarland was the preacher. This is where he began his singing career in the church choir. The first group he sung with was the "Revelators". Like many artist of his time, he traveled the "Chitlin Circuit". He passed away (2) years ago and his funeral was like a "Gospel Concert". Margaret Peters gave me the article that was written by (Our Girl In Paris, Stacy Patterson) "Dayton Daily News", who wrote about his success in Europe in the 60's. Some of his famous songs were: "Rest for the Weary", "Peace in the Valley", "Ride the Gospel Train", "When I get in Glory", and many more. I am writing this because my father is a part of the City of Dayton History. He was inducted into the "Dayton Gospel Hall of Fame" last year. I am very proud of my fathers accomplishments and I personally feel he should be recognized as an important part of the Dayton History, because he was and he is. If you need further information I have it to share. Also he was involve in the Civil Rights Movement. Most of our African-American men and women who sang gospel, were subject to the horrors of discrimination. I would appreciate a reply and I am willing to do whatever I can to let people know about this great man and father, Paul "Easy" Arnold, Lead Singer for the Sensational Dayton Gospelaires.
