I would like to know if anyone remembers the old Morgan house restaurant. Has or knows where I can get a photo or any recipes. I beleive it was on N. Main up close to the dam in Englewood.

I was a very small boy when my parents used to take me there, As far as I can remember it was for drive through business only, had huge hambergers, or sandwhiches, and my dad said they had the best coffee. They had an area to park and eat that was just around the end of the restaurant.

Yes, everyone went to the Morgan House to get a "Moron burger" - my husband & I would split one.
They also had delicous milk shakes. BUT--I have a cute story to tell about the Morgan House. We started our married life living on the top apt. The
Moron Boy was flashing in our bedroom window. My father came in to see the apt and asked which one was the Moron - my husband or that thing flashing at our window. By the way, the rent was $50 a month - all utilities paid. Memories.

Does anyone remember the Rock and Roll Dairy Queen located on N. Main Street, almost directly across from Heathcliff Drive near Englewood? At one time it was owned by the Merchant Family. I can remember walking down there every day during the summer after playing sandlot baseball in Cedar Knolls and ordering a hamburger(25 cents)and a chocolate malt(25 cents). What great food! It probably closed sometime during the late 1960's or early 1970's.

Back in the late 50s I remember the moron burger was $.90 It was a single large bun but inside were three smaller hamburger patties the approximated the size of the bun. Everything seemed much bigger then, but I'm guessing the bun was about 8" across.

I remember the Rock N Roll Dairy Queen. I used to deliver the Journal Herold to the owners who lived on River Ridge. I would stop at the Rock N Roll to collect. I would get a banana split as payment. About 1959

The Morgan House was one of the first restaurants with a drive thru and it was right out front. You could go down the hill and park out back to eat. The "Moran Burger" was large with five small patties inside a very large bun and the "Monster Malts" were 32 onces.

I remember the Morgan House very well. They had a "garage like" drive thru system. They also had an old service station type driveway bell that I and my playmates would constantly drive our bikes over to the consternation of the workers. My Grandparents bought a house in the old Morgan Place plat in 1956. I was told it was built for Arthur Morgan's workers. The Morgan Plat had it's own water and sewer system. The water was "Sulpher Water" and smelled like rotten eggs. My great Uncle at one time lived in Morgan's personal house. My uncle would send me up to the restaurant to buy him a pack of cigarettes but since I was a small boy I had to have a signed note from him to make the purchase. My uncle would buy me a cherry coke for going for him. It was great growing up at that time. The Rock and Roll dairy bar had root beer floats and chocolate ice cream. The Englewood Dairy Queen had only vanilla ice cream when it first opened.Who remembers the Hollywood restaurant at the corner of Westbrook and main and the old Six Mile house Bar?

I had a huge crush on a girl that I believe lived above the Morgan House. Wanda Prim. That was 50 years ago.

The Morgan House Restaurant and Shaw's Inn - both on State Route 48 in Englewood were great places.

There's a gentleman and his wife, Glynn Marsh and Sue Cummings who are active with the Randolph Township Historical Society - which has a nice little bulding and museum on River Road in Englewood just off of Route 48 and Route 40 in a former church building - I know they have a picture of the Morgan House and may permit copies to be made for some kind of fee.

It's a real nice picture of the building - and there's also some pictures of the waitresses in old Randolph Township High School yearbook ads - check it out!

I remember the Hollywood Drive-In restaurant on SR 48 near Westbrook Road. The owner (or manager), Gordon, was said to have had a bit part in a B-movie many years ago and that's where the "Hollywood" part comes in - or so the story goes. I think there is a beauty salon in that (remodeled)building today.

There is a large picture of The Morgan House in the south entrance of the Kroger's store on Union Street in Englewood. I think the cross road is Wenger. There also is a picture of a hotel, which must be the same one that is mentioned in the previous posts. I have looked at those photos many times, and never realized that they were "Dayton History"!

A friend of mine gave to me recently an old coin that the Morgan House would give out to anyone who was able to eat an entire Moron Burger at one sitting. I can remember walking into the place thru a wooden screen door during the summer to "dine in."
