Hi,
As you may have noticed, I have started the annual fundraiser for DHBO. But I'm not asking for money here. Instead, I would like for you to put why you come to DBHO. Is it for the friends you've found on the blog? The pictures or videos, the books and articles, or the information you can't find anywhere else?
I'm asking so that those who might want to donate can see just exactly why they should do so.
For me, the time I spend each day creating and enhancing this site energizes me. And reading the comments and questions on the blog and the emails I get at home makes me feel good. I have made a number of new friends through DHBO and that convinces me my time and effort here is well spent.
To all of you, thank you so much for being a part of my life.
Curt

I would like to be one of the first to respond. You have provided a wealth of unique information on a broad range of topics regarding Dayton and surrounding communities... and at the touch of a mouse. Much of what you offer are from sources many of us would not know to find (e.g. Howard Burba). The technical aspect is great but it is you allowing us to tap into your base of knowledge that brings added life to the past.

Over the past two years I use this site as a foundation for further research. Yesterday I "blogged" for the first time. I'm going to like the social networking avenue for obtaining information.

Your time and effort is appreciated. Thanks Curt.

Yes, thank you Curt. I love this site because it has brought back many lovely memories of my childhood. ( Many of them were not so lovely before this site.) It has lead to me getting more involved in my high school reunions. I always went, but now I am a member of the committee. And I have experienced Parkmoor chicken again because of hanging around here. I have met some wonderful people and now find a reason to come back to my hometown. May it rise again!!!

Until I stumbled into this site, I never realized that there were so many "Dayton lifers" like myself that were obsessed, as I am, with reminiscing about some arcane and, often, well, trivial factoid about Dayton culture.

This site brings the texture of Dayton as it was just a few years ago back to life.

I stumbled on this site while researching a article on the old Frankensteins Castle. previous to that I used to get my Dayton trivia fix by going to the local pages of Craigslist. I met a few good folks over there and had a few good discussions but more often than not the postings would turn racial or some troll would zoom in from nowhere and begin to question your sexuality or the marital status of your parents. I love this site because it's a good clean site to come and discuss old times with like minded folks. donw put it best, we are probably the only group of people in the world who can become excited talking about arcane trivial facts that the rest of the world couldnt care less about. I plan to become a long time user and supporter of this site. Thank you for having the vision to start it and the resolve to keep it up and running for us.

I love talking with people who have some of the same memories as I do. Alot of people wonder why I like to reminisce so much about my childhood, but here I feel like I'm not alone and I have something in common with the members. Thank you so much for all the great memories.

Dear Curt and the DHBOL family.

You all have come into my life with this "Site" and have brought back wonderful memories and feelings of "youth", "home" "family" and "Friends". This is a wonderful place to share memories and experiences and also to make friends. I hope our children and theirs get to read our thoughts and the fondness we held in our heart for this town and the surrounding area. I think we have "time capsuled" them for them in a good way, and thank you Curt for providing this forum for "regular" people to come and post their thoughts
and rememberances of people and places. Those are the things that make a city and area wonderful. Facts are good, but it is the "heart" of the City or Area in question that makes it what it is and what it is remembered for. All of us are the "heart" of Dayton, as we obviously love it so and remember our childhoods and teen years and other things so well and so clearly.
I am with Mike Austing, I believe in Dayton, and I believe in all of us and our kids. With this much caring for a city and area of Ohio, there isn't any where to go but up.

The Arcade, the new Tech Town. Perhaps we will come back to a town of storefronts, teens who shop down there and take the bus.

I am an optimist. Of this I am guilty.
I love Dayton, and so does my family. I have lived in other states and this by far is the best place to be and to come from. When I applied for a job in FL once, they said to me "You are from Dayton, Ohio??".. "well, you will work out fine, as anyone from that part of Ohio always works hard and completely" .
We were raised that way. I am proud to be a part of Dayton and know all of you. Thank you Curt for the memories and making this available to us.

Quite simply, this site has been a link to my past ... my childhood. It's been great to discuss Dayton with other people who love our city. Thanks!

I pretty well agree with Jeff.
I am a very reminiscent type person. After 'growing up' and assuming all these responsibilities, life really hasn't been a ball. I didn't get married until I was 28 so I had a lot of 'good single years'.
And as I get older (first SS check this month) I tend to enjoy reliving all those great memories. I graduated High School just at the start of the muscle car era and most of my life from mid 60's until I moved to FL in early 72 revolved around cars, cruising, clubs, water skiing, boats, and of course 'GIRLS'. I wasn't a real 'party person' but did hang out at several clubs to socialize (OK, meet girls).
After moving to FL in 72, even though Ft Myers was a small, retirement and country town, the single life was still decent and hot cars quickly turned to hot boats and weekends spent on the river racing, skiing, fishing, etc.
I also was not a social person in High School so most of my friendships from back then in Dayton were made after HS. I enjoy talking on here about all the old hangouts, who remembers who, who went where, etc. I lived in Beavercreek near Wright State so I'm not real familiar with a lot of the Dayton neighborhoods so I can't participate in the hard core Dayton discussions. I was an 'outsider' that visited HA HA.
I wish I could find more people that I knew back then or hung out with. I try finding people on Classmates (limited success) but I know where they lived but NOT what High School they attended so that's tough. Just learning Facebook.
So thanks to all of you that help bring back memories of the people, events, places, etc that were a part of one of the most enjoyable periods of my life.

Hi Curt, I first heard about it through a friend and loved it from day one. Later, I bought several of your books at a book appearance and have made www.daytonhistorybooks.com my favorite website.

I love the memories of a simpler time in my life.I feel I'm relating experiences with neighbors.I stll come to Dayton frequently even though I'm a couple of hours away now. It's great to have my memory refreshed on a regular basis. I feel we're all extremely fortunate to have this site and enjoy "visiting" and sharing knowlege of OUR area.

Thanks, Curt! :)
I pimped this site on the Classmates.com message board for Colonel White and E.J. Brown schools. You other folks might mention it on your school's message boards, too. Spread the word.
