My wife isn't native to Dayton, so I tend to confuse her when using old names for current places. Don't do this consciously, just old habits are hard to break. A few that come to mind are:

1) Barneys--The wife is a nurse, she can't understand why I don't use "Childrens Medical Center" like everyone else.

2) Rikes--The name "Macys" is clearly on the building, why don't I call it that she asks.

3) Beermans--This one she kinda gets.

4) The Field--Not one I use myself, but she's heard several of her older patients make this reference to WPAFB.

5) Old 35--We live in Beavercreek, so this a road we use frequently. She prefers Dayton-Xenia Rd.

Any others I can confuse her with?

Don't forget old Western Avenue that's now called James H. McGee Boulevard or Patterson Avenue which is now called Edwin C. Moses Boulevard. And if you want to go way back, my father told me that Hoover Avenue used to be called Jalapa Road back when it was just a dirt road.

I was thinking Edwin C. Moses Boulevard was formerly Miami Boulevard.

The part of ECM Blvd. between W.Riverview and W. Third Street was called Sunrise Ave. I am also still in the habit of calling Barney's, Rikes and the Museum of Natural History by those names. I still call Paul Laurence Dunbar Street, Summit Street. The Safety Building is still CPS (Central Police Station). Even though the signs are green, a BP is still a Sohio gas station when I refer to it.

Edwin C. was formerly Great Miami Blvd. There is still a small section called GMB. It runs from W. Grand Ave. Crosses N. Main St and dead ends at Riverside Dr.

I think ECM stops at W. Riverview Ave. It was formerly Miami Boulevard West but I don't believe Great Miami Blvd. ever routed beyond McKinley Park.

Even after Wayne Township incorporated to form Huber Heights, Dad would always refer to the "darn Wayne cops" whenever he was inconvenienced by a road closure. And this whole new system of "MetroParks" was a surprise last time I was back in town.
