Newsnot, If you have any of those, hang on to them. There is a fire muster in Germantown July 5th. Depending on the condition, they may be more valuable than you think. I have a set of the FDNY trucks that lists the assigned fire fighters killed on 9/11 uncut.
Historybuff, HO trains arfe awsome. I may get into that again. I remember the slot car track on Linden Ave. , in the mid 60s.

I have H.O. trains, Lionel trains, lots of antique diecast cars. Dinky toys, Tootsietoy are a specialty.

Billd, I have a glass fire grenade still filled and ready for action, even has the original manufacturer's sticker from somewhere in Colorado (I think it is Red Comet????). I've been trying to sell it but ebay won't allow it because it is filled. It is the hanging type that punctures the glass when it gets hot enough.
I think it is fun to collect something.

My wife tells me all I do is sit around the house and collect dust, does that count as a hobby?

When I was a youngster I was big into the coin collecting craze. I had a red book a blue and never missed an issue of Coin World. My favorite little coin store was downtown in the arcade across from Pantorium cleaners. I think the old guy with the cigar that owned the place was named Ralph, not sure.

Later on in life I briefly collected Nazi artifacts from world war 2, but I gave that up when the Neo-Nazi/ skinhead nuts started surfacing, my wife didn't like the idea that we might be confused with that crowd so everything with a Swastika had to go. There was too many duplications and counterfeits starting to surface anyway and I was far from an expert at detecting the fakes.

Nile, the liquid in your comet is carbon tetrachloride, that was supposed to smother a fire.
I've seen them in Germantown, but, never bought one.

Riverdale, LOL at collecting dust. I also tried collecting coins, but I lost intrest. I don't even remember what I did with the coins I had. I also had a baseball card collection that I ended up using on my bicycle, to make it sound like a motorcycle. I am kicking myself on that one.

I am a history buff, with a particular interest in the Civil War and the Old West frontier. I have had an opportunity over the last few years to research places to visit and take some awesome road trips. This has been particularly timely, due to the Civil War Sesquicentennial. In addition to visiting a large number of historic sites, I have also visited many of the beautiful National Parks and Monuments that the US has to offer.

I wish I could do this for a living...

Like KennyE11, I am a history buff and collect books with a special emphasis on The Civil War. And like you, I have taken some awesome field trips to Gettysburg, Antietam, Spotsylvania, Petersburg, Cold Harbor, Stone's River, Appomattox, Shiloh, Chattanooga, and Chickamauga. The first to Gettysburg came in 1963 when I was 13 years old, just days after JFK was assassinated.

My deceased husband collected coke everything and had it on display in spare room from ceiling to floor and corner to corner. He boxed it up when his cancer returned and have no idea what he kept and what was given away. Still have some including trays but walls clear of most. Coke memorabilia just makes people happy. Also trolley I understand your appeal for trains and the work going into it. Have gone to some wonderful displays and that's another thing that makes people happy as we grew up when trains were everywhere in Dayton. Still love on a still night listening to the sound of a train.

I remember the large O Gauge model railroad at Dayton Union Station and there was one at Dayton Model Railroad (Smitty's) down on Wayne Ave. Of course both are long ago gone. We have a large display at our store. If anybody wants to see it, go to You Tube and type in Legacy Station. There are several videos of our Layout, including one where the editor of O Gauge Model Railraod put a go pro camera on the front of one of the engines and you can see what it's like to ride around it, through the tunnels ect. And I agree luv my Dayton, nothing like the sound of a train in the distance at night.

Those are a lot of fun. I have restored a lot of them through the years and have a few left. I have a Bally Captain Fantastic, A Williams Space Mission and a Williams Single Player Sky Lab. A Williams Strata Flite and a Williams OXO. I haven't bought any in a few years because most of the ones I looked at had ruined back glasses, and the few that are being re-produced are so expensive it takes all the profit out of the machine. Still, pinballs are a lot of fun.

trolleyfan - Glad to see that you have a functioning OXO. That was one of my favorite Williams pinball machines, along with World Cup, Firepower, and Black Knight 2000.

Someone tried to start a favorite pinball machine topic a while back that didn't take off - I think I was the only one that added to the topic, and it didn't show up when I did a Site Search.

For anyone interested in pinball machine information, the Internet Pinball Machine Database (ipdb.org) is a great source of information.

I agree KennyE11. I found it to be a huge help and go to it frequently. My OXO is in great condition with an excellent back glass and play field. When friends come over I ask them if they want to play Tic Tac Toe. They look at me like I have a 2nd head, then I take them to OXO. Most of the time I have to pry them off the machine LOL. Firepower is a good machine. A friend of mine has one. I've seen the Black Knight but never played one. As far as the later (mid 70s thru 90s) machines, I like Gorgar, Creature From The Black Lagoon, my fave, lots of ramps, and I would love to have a Dolly Parton. That machine wasn't as popular as they thought it would be, but it is a lot of fun. I guess the main thing that might have hurt it is that it was perceived as a Girls Machine ! I don't think Rough Necks in the bars much wanted to play it ! LOL

I love that machine. We had it in the bowling alley I used to go to when it was a current machine. I put more than my share of quarters in it.

Someone once told me you can get an American history lesson from looking at Coca Cola advertisements through the years.
