The best place I can remember is Engelwood Dam. Shady, and lots of area to run around in. My dad used to fish there when I was just a kid..oh so many years ago.

Way back my family and their friends would get together so us kids could play, the women talked and the men fished and pitchedball. This took place at Triangle park sometime in late 40s early 50s. When a bit older Old River was the place to be.

Olds88 forgot all about hills and dales. Family may have gone but was hard to get one reserved. Do remember going to brownie or girl scout day camp though. Still a beautiful area and still well kept.

Old River. I had 5 aunts and uncles who worked at NCR, so that was our park of choice.

I like Walnut Hills Park. Nice view of Dayton and I think the area is making a comeback. Housing is reasonable in the area.

How do you gain entrance to walnut hills? Remember going there as a kid as it also had a big wading pool. Pass the Wayne ave side all the time and with all the one way streets have no idea how to go there.

Luv,
Walnut Hills Park is bordered by Wayne, Illinois, Buchanan and Highland. You can enter from any of these streets. I think the best entry is off Buchanan.

I just LOVE Carriage Hill! There are great picnic shelters as well as nice meadows to spread out a blanket. I also enjoy going to Charleston Falls and having a picnic in their lovely picnic grove. A nice hike to the falls after lunch makes for a great afternoon.

Carriage hill farms is an awesome place but have never had a picnic there. For a wonderful day for the family you should take the children and give them a peek on what life was for those decades ago. Barns, horses orchards and many other things all will enjoy. No charge.
