Oh my gosh!! What a memory - I used to go there with my mom - please remind me more - where was it located on Salem... sure it wasnt on N. Main? and then didnt it move into the Salem Mall. I also used to go to Thal's in downtown Dayton with my mom in early 60's (?). Can someone remind me where that ws located downtown. I remember the elevator operator knew my mom and always paid extra attention to my sister and me when we were little.

I'm not sure, but was Dale Fashions at Santa Clara and North Main Street, where the old Upper Krust used to be?

Dale Fashion Store was next door to the Dale Theatre at the coarner of Santa Clara and North Main St. It was just a small place and then it moved to Salem Ave. The Upper Crust Restaurant used to be a Ice Cream Shoppe. Does any one remember the Equity Ice Cream Shop on North Main? They had great Whitehouse Ice Cream. It was vanilla with cherries. Good stuff

The Dale theater, I think, was in the next block north of Santa Clara, in the middle of the block. Seems like across the street from Dale Fashions (north) there used to be a Gallaher's drug store and then the theater was north of that.
And, there used to be a dentist's office somewhere above it all. Dr. Spencer (?)

I think you're right about the location of the theatre, though it was long gone by the time I got there. What *was* that large building across Santa Clara from Dale Fashions called? Anyway, yes, there was a dentist upstairs, a Dr. Smith, I believe from '66 to '77.
He used to give me a shot of Novocaine and then tell me, "Now be sure and tell me if it hurts". He'd eventually get down to the nerve and it would hurt, and I'd tell him. He'd just say, "Oh, I'll be done in a minute" and keep drilling. :\ I was just a kid.

Here are links to a couple of pictures on DHBO that shows the Dale Theater and also what was across the street in the 1950s.

If I recall correctly, the place immediately to the south of Dale Fashions was an upholstery business, Peerless Upholstery. It was somewhere thereabouts, anyway.
They re-did our living room furniture -- beautiful job, lasted about thirty years.
