About Us

As a local author of several books on Dayton's great history, Curt Dalton saw a need for such information to be available to children and the general public in a format that can easily be read and searched.  On October 24, 2004 he began a website called "Dayton History Books Online".  Most of the books on the site are out of copyright and in the public domain, although Curt has placed some of the books he has written on here as well.  This site is free and the books can be printed out as a whole or in pages as needed by the reader. At this time, however, only the text of the books are available, no images.  This is due both to the high cost of storing images online and to avoid problems with images that might still be under copyright.

The website's mission is to provide books and other educational information about Dayton to the highest number of people, especially children and college students, at the lowest cost possible.  While the web will never replace the need for books, especially since the neediest children do not have a computer at home, it can help in the schoolroom and libraries by allowing access to information that cannot normally be found except in a library's rare book section. Also, the search engine will direct them much more readily to the information they need for homework projects. Of course, adults are sure to find this site useful as well, especially if their family is from the Miami Valley area.

If you find this site useful, please tell others about us.  We need your help in getting our site address out so that it can be of use.

Thank you.
