Goal: $3,500 Donations Received So Far: $2,055
Dear Friends,
As you know, Dayton History Books Online has already become much more than just a place to research books and booklets on Dayton’s great history. With your help we hope to expand even more!
What a wonderful year it’s been! When we began asking for donations in August 2009 we promised that they would be put to good use. And we feel we’ve more than kept that promise! Over the last 12 months DHBO has grown enormously, adding a number of features to the site including:
100+ Roz Young articles
600+ pages of articles written by Charles F. Sullivan, who was born in Dayton in 1866
The “Our Own Hall of Fame” series from the 1960s on important people from the area
500+ photographs of Dayton from 1900 to the present, half of which are from the 1950s
A new search engine that now includes DHBO’s blogs and photographs
A number of historical videos that can be watched online
All this, on top of maintaining the 600+ books, booklets and articles online; the now famous ASK A HISTORY QUESTION blog; the audio interviews of dozens of Daytonians whose memories stretch back to the 1913 flood; the nearly 900 photographs of Dayton and Miami Valley; videos… all while staying up with the latest technology to make sure the 2.3 million+ views DHBO received over the past year could continue without interruption.
What does the following year hold for DHBO?
There are a number of goals we’d like to reach, some of which will need champions to accomplish. If we reach our goal of $3,500 DHBO will add:
More Roz Young articles
More rare books, including “Big Town,” written about Dayton during Prohibition
More photographs
More historical videos
This will also allow DHBO to maintain the blog as it is and not have to eliminate pages from it as it has had to do in the past.
CHAMPIONS
As stated before, if additional funding can be found, there are some very exciting projects DHBO has in mind to place on the site.
Imagine being able to listen to Charles F. Kettering as he talks about science and industry – all taken from original radio programs he gave during the 1940s.
Envision a kid-friendly section where children can learn about Dayton’s history through puzzles, stories and other activity pages that can be printed out at home or used in classrooms.
Visualize older books and maps of Dayton being scanned and placed in a PDF format for easy downloading or printing.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT
I look forward to working with you to make this site a better place to learn, share memories, meet new friends or rediscover old ones, and show everyone that history is NOT boring by any means!
Thank you for your continuing support!
