HELP SUPPORT Dayton History Books Online
CLICK HERE FOR LIST OF SUPPORTERS

Dear friends,
As most of you know, each year around this time we ask our friends who visit Dayton History Books Online for help to keep us online. DHBO must now partly depend on donations.  DHBO has now reached the point where I had to become a non-profit organization, which now makes us a public charity. I have also filed for 501c3 status which, if granted, would make donations tax deductible.

Since last August DHBO has added 91 books, booklets and articles to the site, as well as a number of photographs, videos, postcards and matchbook covers. Also included is the “Dayton Speaks” series of over 50 oral histories with stories that cover over 75 years of memories of the Gem City.  In July 2009, DHBO saw a record number of visitors to the site, with an average of 3,770 hits a day, a jump of over 1,500 more than the year before!

As you know, Dayton History Books Online has already become much more than just a place to research books and booklets on Dayton’s great history.  With your help we hope to expand even more!

Future enhancements planned for the DHBO’s website include:

  • More photographs of Dayton, including a series from the 1950s
  • More really cool Postcards
  • Videos of our history and community
  • More articles by Roz Young
  • More community events, like our meetings at Parkmoor
  • More books and booklets about Dayton
  • More Oral histories

Equipment to scan, software to convert the scans to text, use of a special copier to copy fragile books carefully so that they are not damaged by handling, a search engine to index the text, webhosting and internet service to create the site --you can see how expenses can mount up.

I look forward to working with you to make this site a better place to learn, share memories, meet new friends or rediscover old ones, and show everyone that history is NOT boring by any means!

Thank you for your continuing support!
