When I was growing up I used to go to the Boys Club in Dayton every week but can't recall the location. I played there on the PAL (Police Athletic League).
As an aside, I was born in Dayton and moved to Kettering at 5 years of age. When I discovered this website it brought back memories that I thought were long gone. As I read the posts I cant help but wonder if I know some of you. My last name is Welles. If so inclined you can email me from my profile.
I live in Reno, Nevada now and have for almost 30 years. Thanks to all who contribute.

I used to go to the Boys Club - took swimming lifesaving lessons there around 1968 or so. I believe it was near where Xenia Avenue begins by Keowee St., not far from Wayne Ave.

I took swimming classes there too.
The building is still there, surrounded by the Wayne Ave. US 35 interchange, Keowee St., and US35. It actually sits inside a loop of the intersection! The goofy exit from US35 East to Wayne Ave. was built the way it was to keep from having to tear down the building -- an important community resource before US35 was built through the area.
It later became the Boys AND Girls club, and then a charter school. Access to the site after construction of the US 35 freeway, across major highways, highway exit ramps, busy streets, etc. made it very isolated and that may have contributed to the end of the Boy's Club Era.

I lived at the Boys' Club in the early 70s it seems. Swimming in the heated pool (about 100 degrees), playing bumper pool and ping-pong, could all really take the damper off a dreary winter saturday...

Did anybody ever go to their summer camp? I did one year but I cant remember where it was.

I took swimming lessons there at the Boy's Club. We use to walk down to some sort of small ice cream store down on Wayne Ave right down from there. I'm not sure what that place was called though.
