This store had it all! I remember how big it was and all those crate and imported 8 tracks and records. I think it was in the old A&P?

I believe it was the 1978 or 79 Wayne High "Signal" yearbook that had, instead of the solemn profile of an old Chief in a war bonnet on a red background; (I gotta scream) TWO CARTOON PEACHES IN FEATHER HEADBANDS DANCING ON A 45 RPM VINYL RECORD, on a banana yellow background. At the end of that yearbook was a profile of the old chief, chuckling indulgently.
I had always wondered what in Sam Hill inspired my kid sister's classmates to produce this travesty. I thought it might be the Allman Brothers "Eat a Peach" album, but this yearbook theme was pretty plainly "disco" based.
Thanx, Bentz. I think this thread answers that little mystery.

I remember Peaches, to me, seemed like a death knell for the smaller, locally based head shop/record stores like Golden Rod, Forest, Dingleberrys, etc. It was like WalMart coming to town and destroying the mom & pop stores.
Little did I know that that all record stores, big and small, were on life support even then, and would soon enough be a thing of the past.
hated Peaches warehouse feel, loved its selection.

I remember the first time I went to Peaches on Main. I lived in Athens, my Dad lived near Vandalia. A high school classmate and I drove my vw bug to the big city of Dayton. Dad let me take his big silver 76 tbird to Peaches. My friend and I were in awe. We thought we were so cool driving with the moon roof open. Bought the crates for lps & 8tracks. Still have the lp crate full of records I haven't played in years. But then Dad drove us to a dark little record store on Wayne Ave (I think that's where it was) the next day and that was when we were really in awe. Never went to Peaches again.

Amazing coincidence, but I was reading my latest issue of "Goldmine" last night. Lo and behold, there was an ad selling the "Peaches" record crates.

My first Thomas 'Fats' Waller Lp came from Peaches. The store was vast -- created during the last great period of record production. You could get anything. Sadly, I didn't have the money to buy more than a couple of discs.

I remember that Mike Losekamp from Green Lyte Sunday was working at Peaches right before they went on strike and closed their doors forever.
