Does anybody remember the Kramers beer garden on Irving? It was quite a hangout while going to UD. It was a great place to meet, drink and have good time.

Sorry. This is referring to the Kramer's on Linden and Coping..
It's close neighbors to the west the Double Play and the Dugout, also popular 60s and 70s clubs are gone though..

Sorry. This is referring to the Linden Ave. Kramer's

The Dugout was about 1/2 block west of Livingston Ave. on Linden in a white building that resembles a baseball dugout, still there. The Double Play was at the top of Lorain Ave on the south side.
I hope I don't have these flip-flopped, but it's possible. I lived on Lorain as a young boy and I recall both, but I may have them turned around. Seems I used to think that the Double-Play should've been named the Dugout on appearance alone. I'm so confused. Someone will know and point it out here..

I think the confusion here, is that there was/is a Kramer's on Linden near Lorain. The Kramer's most
of this thread is referencing is the Kramer's on Irving
by UD.

Kramers on Irving! Is it still there? We lived a few blocks away on Schantz Ave and we could walk there in five minutes. Sometimes with an east wind we could smell the stale beer wafting off the floor of the patio!

Kramers is still there and jumping as always. Had a ball in the late 50's early 60's hanging out there and also another place in East End called Carls??? Could be found just about anytime at either or. Places were jam packed.

luv my dayton, I used to hang out at Carl's in the late 60's early 70's. My sister was dating one of the bartenders (ended up marrying him). She would ask me to go down there with her then she would leave with him and I would drive her car home.

When I was little my older sister Sharon had to explain to our Dad just where she was going on a Friday or Saturday night. If it was a club she would tell him that they only served 3.2 beer and then it was ok for her to go. I used to wonder just what this 3 toot beer was. LOL

3.2 beer (in theory) contained only 3.2% alcohol, insteda of the "6%" of regular beer. I'm pretty sure it was just an Ohio gimmick to sell beer to 18 year olds and all beer was (probably) really the same stuff. It had a red alcohol content label and regular beer had a blue alcohol label, usually on top of the can or a red bottle cap, to meke it easy for the clerk to check it. I couldn't tell the difference!
