There was a Holiday Health Spa in the Britenstrater Shoping Center when I grew up. Several of my friend's parents had "lifetime" memberships. They later moved into Kettering. When they moved, they had this huge golden statue of Atlas holding the world overhead. After Holiday went out of business, the statue somehow wound up at a car wash on east Third Street or perhaps it was called Airway in the area where it was put. I don't know if it is still there or not.

There is a statue just like the one you described over on Troy Street just north of Stanley Ave. I believe the business is a jeweler who buys and sells gold. I think it used to be a dog kennel business.

I joined the one in Englewood with a Lifetime membership in 1980. Then around 1989-1990 I dropped that and joined Moore's until the went belly up around 2004, Now me and my family belong to the "Y". My lifetime membership at Holiday Health Spa was $5.00 a year.

Lgrando - Would the one at Salem and Elsmere been in the building that housed a bycycle shop? I think it was called Steve's. If so, they must have moved north in the late 60's or very early 70's as I've lived a few blocks from there since early 1973. Also, I think the name of the road further north is Klepinger.

That's why I like this site. I learn something new every day.

driver.. Steve's Cycle shop was/is on the north side of Salem between Ravenwood and Catalpa. The Holiday Health Spa was in their own building at the corner of Salem and Elsmere across from Bob and Ed's market. You are so right on the Klepinger road name. Kiplinger is behind the old Miracle Lane center.
