Is the hospital still open? I was born there in the 50's and worked there in the seventies.

It's sort of open. The name changed to the Franciscan and then it closed down quite a few years ago. After sitting empty for a number of years, it now has a bunch of doctor offices, some clinics, etc. I know Good Samaritan hospital has a big clinic there.

The Dayton Heart hospital is located there but in a seperate building. I don't know if the building was there when it was St E's or if it was built later.

I think most of the place, patient wards, etc. is still empty.

If you are interested in seeing what it looked like after it closed, go to www.forgottenoh.com and click on Ohio Exploration. Then scroll down to "Franciscan". There are many photos posted.

Looking for a picture taken of my grandfather outside the nursery at St. Elizabeth Hospital on March 16th or 17th, 1960. Any idea how can locate that picture? Supposedly was taken for St. Eliabeth's yearbook or newsletter, etc. Trying to find it for my mom for her birthday.

Victor Shampton is actually my grandfather. He got cancer and died before i was born, in the late 80's.

iamjoe - Dr. Shampton was such a great, great guy. He delivered me back in 1960, and helped my mom through a difficult pregnancy. She was 43 ... which was very old to be having children in that day and time!

He had a nurse named Edna who was with him the entire time I lived in Dayton. I never was scared of going to the doctor because of your grandfather and Edna.

I did hear he was sick and closing his office sometime in the 80s. I also heard later that he had passed away. I'm SOOOO sorry you never got to meet him. He was a jewel!

Is your family still in the Dayton area?

Victor Shampton was also my grandfather. He died when I was ten after a long battle with cancer. He was a wonderful doctor as well a great artist. His wife passed in 1996, but many of his children and grandchildren remain in the greater Dayton area.
