I am wondering if anyone remembers or has any information on the Talking Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer on the 3rd floor of Elder Beerman - the Home Store I believe? In the 50's? Thanks.

I remember Rudolph at the Home store. I think he would talk to you. And then you got a present already wrapped up. I wish there was a book about the different memories of downtown at Christmas time.

Hi - well so glad to talk to someone who remembers. The memories I have of the Rudolph voice was female. I have often wondered what happened to that Rudolph! I remember the ding ding soft sound of the elevator as you got off and there was Rudolph!

If I remember correctly, Rike's had a Santa Claus and Reindeer light display up the front of their bldg in the 1950's.

Bill...I thought that I was the only person in Dayton who remembered Santa's sleigh with the reindeer at Rikes. I was enthralled by at as a boy. Did it wrap around the corner of the building, or was it just in front? Our family had holiday open houses at all the aunt's and uncle's homes (13 of them), and on the way home from them we would drive by Rikes and see the animated windows and the Santa's sleigh that you mentioned. I must have been about 5 years old. One year, they were gone, and I was so dissappointed! But, in my mind, I can still see it, and recall the fanatasies that went along with it!

Marck...Good question. Now that you mention it, the display may well have wrapped around the 2nd and Main corners. There was also a huge Christmas display near Ridge and Siebenthaler that we always drove by every year.
