My mother helps run the Dayton Broadcast Hall of Fame website and she's put out the call for any stories or pics of ANY broadcasting interest.
You should really check out some of the pictures of the recent induction of Nancy Cartwright. Mom says she was VERY gracious and even remember my Dad from when he taught radio at Fairmont.

There is an actual physical site in the Dayton Convention Center on the Mezzanine next to the Aviation Hall of Fame. It's just pictures right now. The website has the most info.

The reason I'm interested is my Dad has the entire collection of the "WING Hits of the Week" top forty surveys the station handed out from the late 1950s when they started until they dropped the format sometime (I think) in the 80s. Trust me, that meant an awful lot of trips to various record stores, department stores, DJ personal appearances, and the old station studio itself downtown over those years.

Dad's no spring chicken, and he's wondering what to do with collection of 25+ years of top forty surveys. He'd sell them to a personal collector, or donate them to a recognized charity, but we've had no luck finding either.

Suggestions??

I'd get in touch with Bill Nance, the unofficial historian for WING radio. You can reach him at info@handsoftimeradio.com

Bill Nance in on the board and an inductee of the Hall of Fame. We would LOVE to at least have scans of them for the website. We'll give him full credit of course! I'll have my mom check with the board to see if they will accept the full donation. Keep tuned in!

Kyttengyrl, you said your dad taught radio at Fairmont- during what time period? I graduated from Fairmont in 1991, and KB, as we all knew him, had been in charge of the radio facilities there for quite a long time (and he didn't retire until 2010)...I'd be interested to know who was teaching radio there prior to him.

My father actually helped the kids start the radio station back in the mid 70's. Kurt Farmer. When I was at Fairmont in the mid 90's, I took Radio with KB and my dad came and helped out, getting some of the equipment upgraded.

Yeah, that was a time when a lot about the program there was changing- with the station's move from East Unit before the remodeling to its new location, starting in '95. I do remember hearing your dad's name, in the past. I wonder if I might have met him at KB's retirement party a couple of years ago.

Probably not. My father passed away in 2007. KB was nice enough to come to the funeral. KB might have mentioned him though.

I started at the East Unit station and moved with it to the big new location. Dad helped get us set up to rebroadcast Central State's station overnight. He was old friends with Turk Logan who was with the Central State Station.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. But yes, I know I had heard his name before.

McAfee lists the website of the Dayton Broadcast Hall of Fame as having "suspicious behavior". Perhaps it has been hacked into or they are using a free website provider what collects info for spam or other devious issues. This has been the first link I have come across on the DMB that has triggered a McAfee warning. I hope someone will check into this and get it fixed (or be able to explain why McAfee thinks it is dangerous to view.

No, my mom is hosting the website through our webhosting. My Avast doesn't have it as suspicious. That's really odd. There's nothing on the site that is logging IPs or emails. No pop ups or even ads! I'll have to check it tomorrow and make sure no one has hacked the site.
As for why McAfee might think it's suspicious - no clue. Sometimes they have false positives. Anyone else have any trouble with their virus software on the site?

To Kyttengyrl -- Go to the McAfee website and find your way to:
McAfee Communities / Home and Home Office / Web and Email Protection / SiteAdvisor / Discussions
Post a message about your problems and they might be able to determine what is going on. Something must be triggering the McAfee warnings, and someone there might be able to tell you what it is.

The McAfee package at work (which uses a different plan) also flags this sight and my wife's University account totally block access to this site. From what I understand, this is McAfee's highest warning, generally reserved for sites with major potential issues -- identity theft, etc. One thing a coworker has suggested is that you should check all links on the website to insure they are all legal, current, and working (and not suspicious). A link to an illegal website (even if three or four steps away from your site, for example if you have a link to a certain radio station and they have a link on their website to a guest's website and it has a link to a "bad" website) your website will be banished as bad -- even if most people would not actually get to the "bad" website without a lot of work.
