I loved reading this thread. Grew up in Belmont and I just opened my cafe here. I'm hoping you guys can fill in the blanks and that someone might even have a picture. 100 Watervliet at Revere, across from the Weslyn church you grew up Trolleyfan. I know it was built as a neighborhood grocery store in the 1930s and I think it was owned by a couple named Fortner. I've had a few people stop in and share brief memories. In the 60s it was a ceramic shop. Does anyone have anything to share?

It seemed to me that 'The Sound of Music' was on at the Dabel for what seemed like a year. And don't forget Franks Carry Out.

Hi Dawn. I grew up in Belmont at the corner of Colwick & Martel. My family went to the EUB, now Methodist Church that was at the corner of Smithville and Bellair. The new building was built a block down Smithville I believe in 1959. I remember the Weslyan Church and the market you referred too. I'm thinking It was the same Fortner family that opened Fortner Reality around the corner on Wayne Ave. His name was Ray Fortner and his son Tom had a band back in the 60s called Tom & The Tempests. I have a few pictures of Belmont from 1953, but they don't go down to Revere. They're at the intersection of Smithville & Watervliet. If anybody wants to see them, send me your e-mail addy and I'll be glad to share them with you.

Thanks Trolleyfan, I got your post confused with Hansters. I know Tom and I left him a message but I also found some other families with that last name. Thanks so much for your reply

Yes, to history buff. I remember the show and those wonderful speakers! They really sent out the vibes, especially for that type of show. Do you remember "The Rocky Horror Show", and how long they played that? Loved it!

Trolley: the Fortner family you just recently mentioned is the family who owned the first home my husband and I bought in Kettering back in 64-65. In the area of Wilmington and Stroop. Loved that little neighborhood and home and lived there until divorced in 1989.Believe they had four children and ray and Betty moved from there to a big place on what was then called Hempstead rd. Betty passed a few years later of cancer. My brother in law was also in real estate and was from Belmont and was in the army with Ray. Once out they both got married and the two guys and wives remained friends for years. Brother in laws name was Thomas Bihr.

Ray had, has, a son named Tom, and he had a band named Tom & The Tempests. I spent most of my High School years playing in a band named Marvin, Betty, & The Triumphs. When I went to college I quit because I was 3 hours away, but in that summer, I played with Tom's band (Bass Guitar). I grew up just a few miles from you LMD. I lived at the corner of Stroop Road and Ackerman Blvd across from Oakview Elemetary School, eventually moving to Beavercreek.

To GailB3: Didn’t Billy Jack also play at that theatre for a long time? Loved and still love the song, “One Tin Soldier” from that movie…….
