OK, It's about time we started another thread about something IMPORTANT - not restaurants, etc HA HA
I'm talking about CARS and Cruising and racing. No car threads for a good while so here is one.
Back in the late 60's and early 70's there was really 2 options for drag strip action (not the street kind). Kil-Kare near Xenia and a place up near Piqua (actually Lockington) called Shelby Raceway. Originally it was Pences Drag Strip and a web search on that will bring up some old pics.
ANYWAY, how many of you car guys raced at Shelby? Quite a few of my friends and I raced there.
For some strange reason I never went to Kil-Kare although I was from Beavercreek. Raced at National Trails in Columbus and down in Hamilton occasionally (track name slips my mind) Maybe Tri-County?
Always loved it when I won because then I would put the trophy on the front seat, leave the white numbers on the windshield, put the top down on the Corvette and cruise the Country Kitchen.
Any good race stories? Come on guys.
On a similar line, one of my friends back then was Mike Shepard(I think). He was a mechanic at Ray Bryant Chevy on Brown St and had a triple black 69 SS Nova with a 454 in it. Anyone know what happemed to him? I heard he died in a car wreck? Anyone know?

i remember all of the strips you talked about. a good friend of mine wanted to get into drag racing and bought a 1966 chev bicayne 427/425. he wasnt much of a driver so he let me drive. it was a dream come true we raced every fri. sat. &sun. we ran in a stock and won almost every weekend. the engine was balanced and blueprinted by arlen vanke in akron. the topper of it all was i got to drive at the nationals that year .got beat in the second round by the winner of the class from previous year a 1965 pont 421. the name of our car was BAMM BAMM!!! and by the way i knew mike a little bit and i'll try to find out what happened to him. tlturbo i'll bet our pathsed have crossed before. and whats wrong with restaurants.

Restaurants are GREAT - I eat almost every day HA I usually ran Pure Stock (yeah right) but they caught me with too wide tires once and made me run A Stock. Won 1st round but lost to Stepp's Challenger next round. I had a fancy Egyptian painted Gold 427 435 69 vette convertible. I loved that strip where you could sit right there at the burnout area. 427 Biscaynes were rare animals. ----------
