I am responding to another thread on this subject. It is a shame that the economy has probably nixed alot of people from going to the county fair. I haven't been in years but thats due to lack of interest mostly. It was mentioned that the fairgrounds has become rather dilapidated and run down. My thoughts are that since UD and Miami Valley Hospital keep building it may eventually be bought out by either one. There may be laws in place to prevent this from happening as there are other events that do take place there.

Tony's Italian Sausage is locally owned, and they are on the midway. There were a few other locally owned booths there also. We bought from the Cattle Assn. food booth, which was set up by Mont. Cty. Cattle Assn.

To move it would stop a lot of people from attending. My daughter and I have made it a tradition to go on opening day. We plan it so we are home by the time the kids get home from school. I;ve seen many people taking the bus, or walking from downtown. One year, we were without a car, so I took my kids on the bus. Having it outside the city limits would hurt attendence.

Well, let's hope there are laws in place that will keep the fairgrounds going right where it/they are now.

Although the Kettering Holiday at Home people and some others might enjoy an increase in attendance, it doesn't matter how "urban" an area is, the cheesesteak still originated on a farm; and, it seems rather preposterous to me to locate the fair in kingdom come just because it's partly an agricutural show. You can grow prize tomatoes in a pot in the family room if you know what you are doing and do the cake baking in an ordinary kitchen.

For anyone interested in fair stuff, you can get on their mailing list for information. Sorry I don't have the url handy.

It's "county" fair, not "country" fair and is open to entries by city residents as well as farm families. More city residents should enter it. In fact, the fair board should promote entries by city residents.

Talk about moving the fairgrounds has been flying around for at least twenty years. I just finished a hot and heavy exchange with someone over that exact matter just a few weeks ago on another message board.

And, frankly, I think the Kettering Holiday at Home people should be ashamed of themselves for creating a counter event. That could just as easily have been set for Columbus Day, which is likewise a three day weekend. .

Kettering Holiday at Home was started many decades ago and never affected the attendence of the County Fair as I used to go to both. Holiday at Home is a 2 day affair with most of the activities taking place on Labor Day. The County Fair most generally is at least a five day event. Changing the time of year the County Fair is held, maybe more mid Sept. or later when it begins to get cooler would work better as with any holiday many folks are on the road and gone somewhere else.
