Wondering how many of you went to the Root Beer Stande back when it was A&W?? I was there on opening day back in '63. In the summer of '66 I dated several of the carhops there, including Teri Galyon (older sister of Ronnie and Donnie). I often wonder what became of Teri, she's never mentioned in any of the stories about the twins.

Been there many times over the years but not recently. Pass it all the time and should drop in before it closes for the season.

Visited the "Red Barn" across the street and up a ways more than the root beer stand. The "Big Barney" was my Dad's favorite burger in Dayton.

I know there were a few "Red Barns" in the area. Was that a national chain, or locally owned?

Calhoun- the following is from wikipedia:
The Red Barn restaurant was a fast-food restaurant chain that was founded in 1961 in Springfield, Ohio, by Don Six, Martin Levine and Jim Kirsch. In 1963, the small chain was purchased by Richard O. Kearns, and the offices moved briefly to Dayton, Ohio, followed by a move in August 1964 to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In the late 1960s, Servomation bought the company followed by Motel 6 in the late 1970s. The new owners ceased advertising for the chain and the franchise leases were allowed to expire with the last of the leases expiring around 1986. At its peak, Red Barn had 300-400 restaurants in 19 states as well as outlets in Southern Ontario, elsewhere in Canada, and in Australia.[1]

Following the shutdown of operations, most of the Red Barn buildings were converted for other uses. A few of the chain restaurants were renamed "The Farm" in various states and continued serving the same menu items that were available when they were under their Red Barn franchise.

I go by the stand every day and haven't been able to get in the lot. Since it opened recently for the season it is extremely busy, everyday of the week.

The Red Barn in Springfield was on North Street. It later became Stockbarn and was next door to Stockdale's. From the research I've done, Parkmoor chicken was served at Red Barn toward the end.
