Does anyone remember the North Dayton Anglers and Gun club? I think is was somewhere near Childrens hospital. My parents went there almost every Saturday night during the 60's. And because they never left me with a babysitter, I was taken too. The man at the door was nicknamed Blackie, although he was white. ( Child irony) He always asked about my cat. They had a live band and a jukebox for when they were taking a break.( The song Alley Cat takes me straight back to this place. ) The adults danced to the band and the kids to the jukebox. ( Twist anyone?)They had a long bar area where I used to buy candy bars and pop. ( Yes, they had the normal bar beverages.) They also had a kitchen area where you could order food. I usually got french fries that were so good they spoiled me for any other. When I got tired around 10 PM, I would fall asleep in the women's restroom on a blue vinyl sofa. As a 12 year old, it was the place where I wore hose for the first time. It was a big deal back then - a rite of passage that said you were growing up. Many of my parents friends went there. We went to Put in Bay with some of them. ( Here is where the fishing comes in. ) I think we stopped going when Blackie retired or died and my Mother got sick. Would love to hear others memories.

Lot's of guys back then who were my Dad's friend were named "Blackie" because of their black hair and because in that end of town you couldn't pronounce "Tonuse" or "KKkeglesuise" or "Guissepe". Old people will know where the Angler's club was..big giant big mouth bass on a 7up sign at the end of Troy Street where it ended into the river. (OLD NORTH DAYTON).

becky, my Grandma played Alley Cat so much that I could platy it by ear on my guitar and cello, and even on that silly electric teensy organ they gave us.

All "ladies" rooms had those sofas in them, lot's of private clubs, It was so we could go to sleep when we couldn't sit on a stool or chair any longer.

Change your thread to the Polish Club, Italian Club, Irish Club, Czech Club, Hungarian Club, and you will get lot's of feed back and great memories.

ND Anglers is still very active. An ex neighbor of ours is a board member/pt time bartender there.

Well, actually I am surprised that the ND Anglers is still open much less active. I would LOVE to see the inside of that place if they haven't remodeled the dickens out of it.

I don't remember what color hair that Blackie had - maybe no hair at all. My Dad was pretty much bald so it wouldn't have even registered with me. I have no clue what nationality any of those people were - I was a kid. But Polish comes to mind because my Dad say it was the Polish section of town.

The North Dayton Anglers is alive and well! I also grew up in "The Club" and I am now a member. The inside still looks pretty much the same. The couch is gone, but the inside still is the same. The founding father's son Richard is still a member there. The Junior part of the North Dayton Anglers is having a reunion May 13th, 2010 at the clubhouse on Valley St. There is something on facebook about his event.

My great grandfather use to play music down at N.D.A. during the 60's. Anyone recall the names "Randy Dirks" "Jack Walton" "Herb Greggerson" or "Earl Neibert"? Question about the club, do you have to have a membership to get in? Would like to go down for a quick look around just to see what it looks like.

I have transferred 5 audio files from a new years eve party back in the 60's. I think it is either around 1962 or 1967 but I'm not sure. Maybe someone here that may have been their can give a more exact date. Just go to Youtube.com and search for North Dayton Anglers & Gun Club New Years Eve Party. You will find five audio clips that are a little over 8 minutes long. Went down to the club a few months ago and it looks just like it did back then.
