Seems like I remember a couple because I used to get angry with my mother for shopping there. (they gave S&H Green stamps) I was saving Top Value. Albers was always a cincinnati mainstay, they were the main competition for Krogers in that region.

There was an Alber's in the old Miracle Lane Shopping Center, which was located on the west side of Salem Avenue (around the 3000 block, between Litchfield Avenue and West Hillcrest Avenue). I remember grocery shopping with my mother there in the late 50s-early 60s. When the Alber's closed down I believe it was replaced by a Duff's Smorgasbord. Miracle Lane used to be a vibrant place, but now I think it's just a big vacant lot.

Dan-O - You are correct about Miracle Lane. There's nothing there now except a grass lot. Albers was before I moved to Dayton but I remember Duff's. There was also a bingo parlor and a state store there.

Mikey...That place is still a grocery store. The drugstore became a furniture store, and then a beer drive-through, and a year or two ago it burned completely down. It is a vacant lot now. Just north of the grocery there was a neighborhood bakery. I don't recall the name. Mom would send me up there daily to get a loaf of their fresh white bread. I was allowed to eat the "heel" of the loaf on my way back home. They had a bread slicing machine that amazed me!I think the restaurant you speak of was "Sano's", and I had many a bur-haircut at that barber shop. We wanted Beatles hair, but were denied by the parents. My brother and I weren't very happy about that! I know that neighborhood like the back of my hand, and it's cool to see somebody else has fond memories of it too.

Just took a spin up Xenia Ave courtesy of Mr. Google. looks like a old supermarket building there on the south side of the street near St Marys Church. could that have been a Albers at one time ? I dont remember a supermarket having been there.

I worked part time at the Albers Supermarket on Helena St. in 1958. The store was brand new and the cashiers had to go to special training to run the newmodern cash registers. I went to Kiser High school also. I remember giving out green stamps and going home with green fingers from handing out all those stamps. And in the winter freezing when I was stationed at a register close to the door. I made like $3.00 an hour and that was pretty good for a part-time student then.
