Woodman Avenue. For the life of me I can't remember exactly where it was or what's there now. It was roughly in the area of the Root Beer Stand but across the street.

Does anybody remember the other menu items at the Red Barn ? I loved their Fish Sandwich and I thought they had the best Strawberry Shakes in Dayton.

I remember going to the Red Barn on North Main right after the ambulance left from taking one of the girls who worked there to the hospital. she apparently slipped on some grease, fell forward and ran her arm elbow deep into one of the deep fryers. I missed seeing it and I am glad I did.

iscalum: forgot all about the house of magic. bought my first tube of itching powder there. Brown street was my favorite too, I used to live in that grey two story house right next door to the Shed.

newsnot: Shame on you for starting a thread and not knowing the name of the burgers..lol do you remember the Onion Rings ? they was the best and only cost 15 cents. everybody I knew was in love with Frisch's Onion Rings but I never cared for them, they cost 39 cents and the breading always came out real light colored and it seemed like they was always undercooked.

I just drove by that place a few days ago. I think it's called the Burger Barn but not positive about that. I think it's still open.

Close. The Red Barn at 1000 N. Main is now Benjamin Burger Mister. The foodies in the media says it's really good but I've not tried it. Wrong end of town and I don't get up there much.

Benjamin the Burger Master, old Red Barn on Main St., has a really good menu. If you like sweet patato pie, you owe yourself a trip and a treat to the Burger Master at 1000 N Main St. There is a large amount of household antiques on display throughout the restaurant. Owned by alumni of Northridge High School.

If my fathers recollection serves me right (lol) he told me that the Read Barn on Woodman is now the Little Saigon. Its been there forever and I dont know how they make a profit seeing as the parking lot is almost always empty. He also told me of the red yoyos that the children recieved with their meals. Funny stories about those Ive heard from him.

Am I missing something here? Did Red Barn start in Dayton? I'm scratching my head, I mean i know Wendy's started in Columbus, but that's 80 miles away. I remember when Burger Chef and McDonalds were competing heavily in the late 60s. Burger Chef had a Dracula character demanding "fun fun food" Mickey Dees one-upped them and waxed them with their "happy meals". Hokey smokes, I actually remember fifteen-cent burgers. Sometimes when I come to this site I feel like Dorian Gray looking at his portrait...

AllenN71 - I vaguely remember the old Burger Chef and Jeff ad campaign, but I can't remember who Jeff was supposed to be. Do you remember that?

The old Burger Chef building on Salem Ave. just north of the Salem Drive-in and across the street is now a Submarine House. I swear there's been at least a dozen fast food places there since Burger Chef closed.

I think "Jeff" was the kid with the Dracula charachter (Monster movie spoofs like "the Munsters" were quite the rage then). I think Burger Chef asked why Jeff and Drac had come and Drac said "We're hungry for Fun Fun Food!!!" The jingle went: "Go-go Burger Chef for Fun Fun Food".
As for Red Barn, at one time they wound up serving Kentucky Fried Chicken. I worked part time at a Red Barn in VA for a time and learned how to cook KFC. KFC cut the chicken differently back then, so that all the peices were about the size of a baseball and would cook evenly. There were two all-white meat pieces called "keels". Like so much else, KFC just ain't the same..
