I have a family photo of a new years eve party, and I was trying to identify one person in it who I didn't know, and another person in my family (who wasn't present) said that he thought it was a well-known disc jockey in the area named Bernie Wolcott. I haven't been able to verify anything for certain. Does that name ring a bell with anybody?

The photo was taken in 1971, so he would be of the 1960s/'70s era. Any help is greatly appreciated. I assumed that he was somebody else in my family who I just didn't know, since we have a big family, and it was taken shortly before I was born. But I wonder if anybody here would know that name.

Sounds like the one who went by the name of "B. W." when on the air. A lot of people didn't know his real name.

I'm not sure that's the right spelling. It might have been Wolcotte. I don't remember the station. It might have been WONE. Seems like he would have been before 1960 (I didn't pay too much attention in 1960), but his time could have run well into the 60's. And, lastly, if it is him, you might not find anything like a street address as the memorable thing was that gossip had it that he lived in a motel.

He was better known as a news columinst for the Dayton papers than he was as a radio/TV personality.

In the late 60s/early 70s he had a TV show called "B.W. After Dark", a cheesy, local program where B.W. tried to emulate the Hugh Hefner personna. Even as a kid I knew it was awful.

Trying to recall BW appearing on tv, maybe 1970s reading daily headlines during paper strike or slowdown. Saw this post and that memory popped up...

Thanks for the help, everybody!

That Hugh Hefner persona fits pretty well with the photo that I have- it's a picture of my grandmother, who was in her early 50s at the time. And BW is sitting down behind her, holding up the opened page of a skin magazine. I don't know whether she was aware of it or not. It's hilarious.

B.W was a big suporter of the big band sound. He was around for years at various radio stations and did live remotes from some of the nice supper clubs mentioned on this web site. Rock and top 40 play lists on the bigger stations pushed him to wavi which was a daytime only station

B.W. WAS THE BEST FOOD CRITIC THAT DAYTON EVER HAD. HE WASNT PRETENTIOUS OR UPITY, JUDGED THE RESTAURANT OR THEIR FOOD FOR THE MARKET THEY WERE TRYING TO PLEASE. NICE GUY USED TO COME IN AT MAYBE THE BEST ITALIAN RESTAURANT'S IN THE MIDWEST. THE NAME OF THE RESTAURANT WAS ANTONIOS CENTERVILLE. OWNERWAS GOOD FRIEND OF THE FAMILIES, HIS NAME WAS TONY DIPASQUALE. HIS DAUGHTER WAS MISS OHIO ( DARLENE).

B.W. was a trip! I mostly remember him for reviewing movies for the Dayton Daily News. I can't think of him without remembering a column he wrote soliciting reader input on whether he should review pornographic films. Can you imagine? I was surprised the DDN even printed that column.

It is little known that BERNIE was a violin child protege. He lost the handle when he hit puberty.Nevertheless he was a good upright bass player in later life,,,
