Does anyone remember when we had the boat races which started on the lake at Triangle off Keowee and eventually as boats got larger they held them at Eastwood lake. As boats got larger they increased the size of the lake. At some point in time the races were moved to Lake St. Mary and they raced there until pollution took over and overall business in that area declined. Does anyone have information on if, when and where they may have these races back again? Imagine it brought in alot of money on the week ends when they raced here.

Back in the late 60's and 70,71, I skied a LOT at Triangle Park. I had probably one of the fastest ski type boats in the area dna got into a lot or impromptu races from one end ot Triangle Parl (N of the Keowee St bridge, down past the boat ramps and shut down before the rope that blocked the S end. Pretty dangerous with people skiing and such but we did that stuff when younger. I moved to FL in Jan 72 and about that time they started having organized boat races at the lakes West of Huffman Dam next to the highway. I came back in Summer of 72 and went over to the races. Don't know about after that. I got involved in bigger boat racing soon after getting to FL. ----------

The races at Hydrobowl were pretty good.Well attended and pretty popular with boaters and fans. They were sanctioned by a national org.and they got points toward a championship.Ido not recall how many years it ran but the crowds dropped off and sponsor money dried up.One year they even tried the unlimited boats and half couldnt start and it was deemed a little unsafe for large boats. They would run over there own wake because it was too narrow. They tried drag boats for a while but died for lack of interest. Its ashame that it sits empty but the it took heavy subsidies and the city was not interested.

When I bought my tunnel hull from Salt Walther, we took it for a test run on the river behind his families marina in Moraine. That would have been S of the DPL plant and just past his marina was a little spillway that blocked the river going South. ----------

Ibelieve one of Woody Bowmans sons had a blown pontiac powered boat that used to run out of walthers up the same stretch of water in w.Carrolton.Ithink they might have fired up ( COUNTRY BOY)the 7litre that salts brother drove.
