This range is in Butler Twp. It is on Castle Rd about a mile or less north of Little York Rd. It actually is between Little York and National Rd.It is north of Dayton city limits.

I do believe that is the range I took my younger brothers to when I was home on leave from the USAF. They both wanted to do "rapid fire" and almost got us kicked out by the rangemaster. You have to aim every single shot at a range because - DUH! - a bullet flying over the berm could result in a tragedy.

My "double-action" technique for revolvers has always been, pull the trigger until the cylinder rotates the cartridge into battery, pause, and complete the firing cycle. I read somewhere that that is not the way, but it's the way I learned in the Air Force and I get 2 1/2 inch groups with a Model 15 S&W 4" at 25 yards very reliably.

I was taken there sometime before 1965 as a member of the Wright Patterson Jr Rifle Team. We shot smallbore (22's) on indoore ranges and they took us for a treat and let us shoot M1 Garand 30-06 rifles. What a hoot. I was the first Jr on the base team to ever become Distinguished Expert.
Does anyone remember the name and place of a Gun Store on N Main St on the East side? It was probably a mile or 2 out from White Allen Chevy.

tlturbo The gun store was Dayton Gun Headquarters. It was located at 2306 N. Main, on the corner of Main & E. Fairview. I worked at the gun shop from 1962 thru 1966.
Dayton Gun went on to become Outdoor Sports Headquarters Inc. Back then we sold shooting/hunting supplies to Miami Valley Grounds which was owned by "Pop" Brown & his son David.

YES, that was the place - thanks for the name and location.

wrgood - maybe you sold me a gun? Talk about changes. I was about 14 around 1962 and I was shooting the range guns that the Wright Patt Jr Rifle club had and decided I wanred a better gun. I came in and you guys had a Winchester Model 52B .22 with heavy bull barrel. I put money down on it (age 13) and bought it a month or 2 later. ALL BY MYSELF.

According to Mapquest, that is now Doc's Tavern??
