Can anyone tell me the path of Rte 4 before the expressway was built to I-70? I'm under the impression that St Rte 444 was part of Rte 4 originally. And what road did it follow to Springfield, before it ran along I-70? I was also wondering about the Valley Pike section between Dayton and I-70. Was the Valley Pike an uninterrupted road before the Rte 4 expressway was built?

Valley St maybe or Brandt? I was thinking North Dixie but I believe that was RT25.

Entering Dayton from the west, Rt. 4 was Germantown Street and from the east Rt. 4 was Springfield Street. I'm not sure but I would think that the Rt. 4 connection between Germantown Sreet and Springfield Sreet would be Third Street. Valley Street was Rt. 69. Dixie Drive was Rt. 25.

Since Rt 4 went east on Springfield St, does that mean that Dayton Springfield Rd was the path Rt 4 took between Springfield and Fairborn? Thanks for all the info.

I too remember the great ice cream in at that creamery. My husband and I used to attend the pleasure car races in DeGraf on Friday nights in the summer. We never passed that place without stopping. I never even knew there was no longer a Rte 69, for years after it was evidently changed to whatever it is called now. After my husband passed away, I once mentioned Rte. 69 to one of my sons and he looked at me like I was out of my mind. I'm glad all you folks remember it and I'll be certain to show this post to my son, just to show him his old mom hasn't completely lost it. (Yet)

titurbo - the beautiful nursery on old Ohio Rt. 69 north of New Carlisle was called Scarf's. Also, ODOT changed more than the name when it renamed Rt. 69 as Rt. 235. Valley Street is no longer a state highway. Rt. 235 starts in the Fairborn area and joins Rt. 4 south of I-70. Once reaching I-70, Rt 4 joins I-70 east. Rt. 235 continues across I-70 and follows the route of old Rt. 69 to Indian Lake.

I can remember Valley Street, or Valley Pike, used to come to an end up close to where the west end of Huffman Dam was. At least, that's how I remember it, having grown up on Valley Street. As for Route 4, for years, after the divided highway was built, we referred to it as either Route 69, or 4 & 69. ----------

Back to the OP's question, I don't have clear recollection of this but since Dayton-Springfield Rd. was a continuation of Rt. 4 through Fairborn, I would guess that it would have continued as Rt. 4 to Springfield. ----------
