Any idea what direction this is looking? Wasn't there a large hotel and restaurant (sister to the one at I-75 across from the Southside drive in) sitting on the NE corner of this intersection? Imperial House North maybe? That would be under this photographers feet. Maybe he was up in hotel?

Trying to draw back memories of back when I was 6 when I believe route25 was the only way to start heading south. That was before any high speeds were available and it took forever or so it seemed as kids to get to LeSourdesville Lake or worse the Cincinnati Zoo. Even had a few snacks to tide us over or was that just an idea our parents came up with to gain silence from us.Even remember playing a game, their suggestion, on who could keep silent the longest. Try that one today and see where it would get you.

I believe the strech of 75 going from the bottom right to the top left of the photo is going south. The sun is illuminating at what I'm guessing is close to sunset, in the late fall (look at the foliage, if you can make out any, on the trees- it's mostly between yellow and brown, or just gone altogether). So anyway, that illumination would be coming from the west. I just think it's much more likely that it was taken at close to sunset, rather than sunrise. Great photo, by the way- thanks for posting it.

The only thing I remember about Old 25 is the street sign that stood at 741 and South Dixie, at the junction of Moraine and West Carrollton. I haven't been over to that part of town recently, to know if it's still there or not. But I think that as of just a couple of years ago, it still was.

Over on the far left side of the photo, you can see just a little bit of a Mobil station sign. So if anyone remembers what corner that was on, directionwise, that would make it easiest to verify.

I worked at the Mobil SERVICE station in '66.It was to the left. This picture appears to face south and slightly west. This was called Blood Strip.
I was on leave and riding passenger on a Harley when my buddy ran the red light, heading east on Needmore rd.He then turned around and ran the light westbound across 75 east and west.Yes,we were both under the weather. I'm glad God protected 2 fools that day. He was killed in a crash in '85.

I believe this view is looking southwest as this white building was painted with black dots before they tore it down, also the brown church on the south side of needmore along the entrance ramp is visible in the picture, therefore only the life word is opposite however I could be wrong. Cameraman is above imperial house north/Quality Inn

As a kid, I was always impressed by the Original Crossroads of America designation in Vandalia, at the intersection of National Road (US 40) and Dixie Highway (US 25). I thought there was a monument there or something at one time - now there is apparently only some commemorative signage.

Everytime I read a topic on this blog that includes discussion of the traffic light intersection on I-75 it cracks me up. I don't really remember it though, since I was only a kid.

hunt69- I noticed you emphasized the Mobil SERVICE station...it's true, we don't have many service stations anymore, do we? Not many at all. That's not something that is unique to Dayton, either.
