I am helping to put together a cookbook/memory book/nostalgia book as a fund raiser for my church which is in Old North Dayton. We are looking for any old pics ( and recipes ) of the OND community, such as OND Day Parades, the old Bonded Gas Station - Pete's Diner - Chili King - Kiser High School - Webster School - Hartell's - Rosencrantz Restaurant, etc. etc. If anyone has this kind of stuff and would like to share to be published into our book, please contact me at molly030107@yahoo.com. Thanks so much and God bless!

Hi Rainy: I'm really glad you are interested in our book! But I am truly in need of everyone's help...We need those pics from the earlier years of our Old North Dayton. We are trying hard to give this book an authentic OND flavor. So if anyone has any recipes or pics they'd like to donate, we would greatly appreciate it! Send them to molly030107@yahoo.com. Thanks so much!! I will be sure to post when the book is ready for sale!!

Can somebody help me. I'm trying to remember the name of Evans Bakery on Troy St. before it was Evans. I think it was Schattschneider or something like that. This was back in the 60's

dave58: Schattschneider's was caddy corner across the street from the library. It was on the corner. I can't remember the name of the cross street there but it was Edmund at the Library. I just discovered this post and sent a picture of Hartell's to Molly. I hope it's not too late.

I grew up in North Dayton in the early 50's and lived on Troy Street until around the mid 60's when I joined the Navy. I remember Schattschneider's bakery. My parents used to stop there after church on Sunday an buy a loaf of fresh bread. I remember Kirk's Variety Store, Best's Auto Store and the State Liquor store were on the corners of Chapel and Troy. At the other end of the block from Kirk's was Schell's Garage. He was a City Commissioner. The house I lived in was directly across from Air Street.
