There are several streets named after famous colleges just west of Salem Avenue. Some names are Yale, Cambridge, Dartmouth, Princeton, etc. Does anyone know how this came about? This is a very pretty area of Dayton to walk in.

All of Salem ave once thrived. Remember going to an ear nose and throat Dr out there. Also had family and friends out there. While some of the area is roughshod a lot of it going north still is beautiful with big homes and lovely church's.

olds88 - I moved to Radcliff in 1973 and across the street was a house where a old lady lived. She was very active and even cut her own grass. Was wondering if that would be your grandmother. I don't suppose you remember the address where you lived.

By the way, I was born in 1941 also but in Hamilton.

OOPS! I got the wrong lady. I didn't know there were two older ladies on my street. I live in the second house north of where your Grandmother lived.

My old stomping grounds. Got married at Grace Methodist Church. Is it still there?

olds88 - I talked to my neighbor and she does remember your Grandmother. She said your Grandmother lived upstairs in the duplex and her sister lived downstairs. She also said both of them were very nice. Is that the house you were born in?

highly possible d62. I dont believe they ever lived on separate floors as they had some of my family there at different times and also rented out one floor or another. The house was a beige in color and a stucoo finish.I spent a lot of time in that area during my early years.

Yes iwas born there, however,we were only waiting for a house to be built on Stroop and Delain. We stayed there about six months and my dad said it was too far out and no bus. There was a gravel pit across the street which became Town and country shopping center about fourteen years later. That property was offered to my dad for ten thousand.Ibelieve my dad had a full plate at the time and turned it down.

olds88 - Thanks for the response. It's a small world. What are the odds of meeting someone on this site that was born two houses from where I live. Thanks again for the replies.

I grew up in Upper Dayton View. The streets around my neighborhood were "Cornell Dr" "Tennyson Ave." Harvard Blvd......

In my childhood neighborhood-College Hill- the streets in one direction were named after colleges, in the other direction named after authors. I lived on the corner of Princeton and Tennyson.
