Is anyone as upset as I and many other people are about the inadvertent demolition of the original Dayton Daily News Building downtown. Maybe it can be replaced but it won’t be the same. I wonder what Curt thinks about the situation. Maybe he has some inside information he might divulge.

History loses again. The contractor says that his orders did not include saving this façade. The mistake cannot be rectified and it will soon be forgotten.

I was by the building this evening and it seems they have attempted to replace some of the cornice. I believe they have put them together somehow so it must have been large pieces that they were able to reconstruct. Be interested to see how it is resolved.

Looks like the right hand doesnt know what the left one is doing. Am sure we will forget all about it. The auditorium of Wilbur Wright was saved and we can still see the old and new. Unfortunately I am still bent that the NCR auditorium was brought down as that place had History.

From what I understand the inside of the building was to be taken down and the facade used as part of the new building to house students. I do not know the story of what happened, nor will I guess at this point. I am in hopes that in the end it will all work out. It seems that a final decision of what will happen going forward will probably not be made until at least December 12th when the city commission meets again.

Curt, I wonder if you would mind recapping the story of the DDN building for our fellow-bloggers as it relates historically to James Cox and Dayton History.
