Icelandia was the name on Sibenthaler Drive. Fun place on a Friday night.

I used to skate at Icelandia back in the late 1950's, often with the owner's daughter, Ann Barker. Anyone know anything about the Barker's?

The Roller Drome was the Roller Skating rink by Parkmoor.I still have my case and pom poms. The inside of the lid reads Steve + Pattie with a big heart around around it :)

What years was the Roller Drome rink open, and where (nearest street intersection) was it located?

I'm not sure when it opened or closed but it was located on Nottingham Rd about a block east of the Main/Nottingham intersection and across from Forest Park. A church now sits at that location.

There was a roller skating rink on Helena St. just before you crossed the bridge going toward Riverside Dr. I don't remember the name of it, but I was there about every Saturday morning to skate during the 50's. They finally sold the building to some company and it was no longer a skating rink. So sad. Wonderful memories though.

I learned to skate at Skateland on Helena in the Fifties, lived in Parkside from 1942 to 53 or 4. That really came in handy later in life, in my early Forties, 1982 some genius invented really good outdoor skate wheels which replaced the metal, loose bearing wheels. I became an avid skater, took part in roller skating Marathons in Az. and California. This in itself got me so I was ambidextrous which also helped a lot because in the summer of 2004 I had a aneurysm in the base of my brain.

I have some lovely pictures of myself on my FaceBook page when I had metal staples holding my face to my scalp.

I'm thinking that it was because I had become ambidextrous that I had no paralysis from the stroke other than the tip of my big toe on my right foot felt numb.

My entire stroke experience was good really, after 47 years of smoking I slept for 6 weeks in the hospital and woke up no longer an addict of this very demanding plant. So skating played a major role in my life, also walking 2 to 4 miles to and from Webster Elementary School helped and then when I got a morning paper route I walked even further, my legs have served me well.

I am past prime, hit it in my early Sixties and that would normally be a good time to recycle oneself. Unfortunately our world is not the best place to leave our children, that makes it rough, had we thought more about the state of our world, maybe we would have helped make it a great place for children to come. Testosterone is a another powerful master which we have to learn to overcome, it seems that even priests cannot do so.

We used to go roller skating at a rink over by McCook's. Don't remember the name, but it was a lot of fun. I used to take a few date there just to alternate with the drive-in theater.

Skateland on Helena was one of my favorites. The Skate boy was Raymond McDermott. I knew his sister.
I used to go there at least once a week, usualy on a Friday or Saturday night.
Sometimes we would go to town afterwards and have an Orange Juice at J's across from the Court House on Third St.
If we missed the last bus, we would have to walk to Westwood. (We walked a lot in those days.)

I have tried for years to locate a girl named Teri Bray that skated a lot at the rink on Nottingham across from Parkmore. She went there a LOT around 1966-67. Probably was about 17-18. She lived next door to the Tropics restaurant on N Main St but then moved out near Fairmont East in Kettering in the late 60's.
If I went skating, it was at the Beavercreek rink or occasionally in Fairborn behind the drive-in.

I spent many days and evenings skating at the Roller Drome on Nottingham Rd. in 1957 through 1960.My best friends mother worked there as a teacher of competition skaters. Her name was Phyllis Jackson. She also taught roller dance and pairs.
I remember her calling the place Nagie's Forest Park back then.
I got my first pair of precision skates from her as a Christmas gift when I was 12.
The whole Jackson family were skaters including Dick,Phyllis,Denny,Stephany and Shirley.Stephany was the same age as me.
I never did become a very good skater but I sure had some very fun times there!
