Joey m - Funny, I worked at MISCO. McCalls Information Services Co on UD campus as a computer operator. My 69 vette ended up with a wild gold Egyptian paint job on it. Mike and I raced mainly at Shelby. Was Tri Co in Hamilton? I raced there once. Know what happened to Mike?

tturbo I'm not sure but I thought somebody told me he passed away but I'm not absolutely sure but I think I can find out. I don't know if you knew Don "The Egyptian" very well but he was quite a character. We were friends and I couldn't afford him. He always made fun of me for taking my Harley Springer to a guy named Tom Willis to get it tricked out. We're still very good friends and I think I'll go over to his shop and pay him a visit. I don't know about you but I need to get out and see old friends.

There was a few posts about Shannon Buick in earlier postings. In 1951, we moved to Kettering on Ackerman Blvd. Gene Shannon, and his wife Dodie were our neighbors. At the time, Gene and his brother owned the dealership. They also sponsored an Indie car driven by a local driver named Eddie Sacks. In the early 60's, Gene's wife passed away and he sold his interest out. I'm not sure how long his brother held on until he sold the business.

tuckerone, Syxpack - Central Olds was also on W Third by Dayton Cracked Block. I think Jenkins was a Dodge dealer and they sponsored several baseball teams I played against as a kid. I believe Hayden Norton Volkswagen started on Wayne Ave just south of Fifth St. Leo's Auto Sales on West Third St. was a used car dealer that did a lot of advertising on WING Radio in the 60s. I remember them specializing in high performance cars but Leo the owner was well know in the antique & classic car circles in the U.S. Brings back great memories.

oldcarguy Your right about Central Olds I worked there in the body shop in 62&63. And I knew Leo casually. I loved going outto his lot and I can't remem0ber who he was but he had a sales man that was always considerate of a young boy who couldn't afford one of their cars at the time. He had a red 58 Impala 2 door hard top with a 348 tri power & a 4 speed that I just dreamed about. Had just got on at McCalls and when 65 models came out I bought my first new car a 65 Chevy SS 327-300 4 speed from Ray Bryants and my salesman's name was Paul Hitchcock. "GREAT MEMORIES"

I don't know who owned the Volkswagen dealers in town but Motor Imports on Wayne Avenue was the first VW dealer in Dayton. Hayden-Norton opened later while Motor Imports was still in operation.

joey m - Kool story. I used to hang out some at Leo's in the mid 60s when Gene "by golly" Berry did live broadcast from the lot. Leo sponsored his mechanic's car a 63 Plymouth Supper Stocker at the local drag strips. I think the mechanics name was Butch Aikman. Always a lot of great cars on the lot.
Thanks supersix for the Motor imports info. They were the first dealer I went to that would wash your car for free after service.
One more question, was the car dealer on N. Main between Hudson and Norman Sonnenberger Motors?

Sollenberger was on Main just north of Shoup Mill, east side. I believe the dealer on Main between Norman and Hudson was JV Motors.

I remember Hayden-Norton VW on S. Dixie (or Kettering Blvd, whichever one runs north) in 1965.

Does anyone remember the Dodge dealership in Miamisburg? My brother bought a 69 Charger from them in 1969 that had approximately 1500 miles on it at that time. I am currently restoring it and would appreciate any info on that dealership. My brother was a Captain on the Kettering FD and past away this past April after losing a 12 year fight to parkinsons disease.

How about Autobahn Porsche-Audi at the intersection of Old 25 (S. Dixie) and Springboro Pike.

I was obsessed with cars as a kid in the 50's. I grew up near the WHIO channel 7 TV station on Wilmington Ave. In those times, new car announcements were a really big deal with the cars shipped under covers and hidden by the dealers until THE day. I used to ride the bus downtown after school (Horace Mann Elementary) and go searching for new cars every Fall a couple of times a week. I remember in particular finding them hidden on the roof of the older 2 story building of Borcher's Ford on South Main St. The door from the adjoining newer 4 story buiidling was of course locked to prevent "unauthorized previews" but I found a way - using the outside fire escape from the roof of the 4 story building. I regret never asking my parents before they passed away how they would have reacted to a phone call from either the police or Borcher's management telling them their 10 or 11 year old son was cornered on the 3rd floor of an outside fire escape! The Borcher's buildings are still there though "re-purposed" but the remains of the fire escape are still visible.
