I recall that quarter midget track racing through the mid '70s. It was on the SW corner. It was part of the national circuit(?)
I think that Joe Raymond had a lot to do with Dayton Speedway in the day. His son Lee is employed by Kil-Kare Speedway. You might check with Lee.

Thanks for the link - it is so sad to see what became of many of these great old places. The pics of the gradual conversion to a landfill are heartbreaking.
I am so glad that Kil Kare is still going strong. I drag raced at several places around the Dayton area but I remember most a strip up near Sidney at a town called Lockington but we all knew it as Shelby Raceway. Won many trophies up there around 1969-1971 drag racing my 69 vette. I can't find an image of it either on Google but remember it was N of town, out in the country down in a farm meadow. Anyone have any memories or pics of it?

Yep...."Mikey".....I know the organization very well. Unfortunately they have no information on the track I'm in need of, and many other "ghost tracks". That was why I put the link to "Dayton Speedway Lives". That site is run by Mickey Thompson and heavily contributed to by Jerry Wahl....both members of DARF. They are searching for information on the ghost tracks to be added into "DSL"

Just found out this evening that the name of the track on the sw corner of Needmore & Dixie was "Thimbledrome". The name eventually was changed to "Miami Valley Quarter-Midget Racetrack"....but was still fondly referred to by the original name. It was located right next to the North Star Drive-In. Still looking for photos!!!!!!

I timed and scored at Eldora 59 and 60. Also went to Kildare every Friday night. My dad worked on a car sponsered by Pefley Ford. We also went to New Bremen. Three tracks in three days. Couldn't talk by Monday.

What about illegal street racing? I of course already know about the old Rip Rap Road strip - there's a scene in my upcoming novel about a fatal crash caused by sabotage (fictional!) set on that infamous stretch of pavement. So where else did you guys go when for one reason or another you didn't want to jack with an official - and legal - venue?? (I'm pretty certain the Statute of Limitations has run out on your stories, LOL.)
