First time I was a UD fan was when the basketball team won a championship and was back in 50s when Chris Harris and Bill Uhl were players. Wasn't a basketball fan but that was a big year for UD and being a young teen I was starstruck. Was on the bus heading downtown when Bill Uhl got on and couldn't believe the height that man had. No seats so he had to stand while hanging his head. One thing that has changed over the years is how the behaviors of players of sports seem to be pretty bad than back in those days and seems as though if your 'bad' then you have to be cool. But then again humanity has changed along with them. Not much to look up to anymore!

I Remember Donnie May and his date coming into the theatre where I worked and he was just another patron. People would speak to him, but nobody fawned over him or made a big deal of it. In retrospect I don't think he thought of himself as anyone special, if he did it never showed through, at least not around me.

I remember when Belmont took state championship. When Wilbur Wright played them, we were ahead at half-time. Don May obviously went on to UD (who lost to UCLA in the finals, but May scored 16 unanswered points against North Carolina if memory serves correct). When I was drafted and taken to Cincinnati for my physical, guess who else was getting their physical? Donnie May! Of course, I ended up in Vietnam and he ended up playing pro ball for Buffalo. That was UD's heyday (IMHO) with May, Finkel, Bobby Joe Hooper, etc.
