Another family business thats no longer here was this company. Think it was down on Springfield street and later became a company that serviced pools. Close to the Stockyard restaurant or at least nearby.

My 4th grade class from Mad River Elementary went there on a field trip. We got to see all the processes and all the blood and guts stuff too. The girls in the class didn't start crying until a man started whacking calves on the head with a sledge hammer. I don't imagine that kind of field trip could happen these days. If it did, I am sure that counselors would be talking to the kids afterwards to alleviate stress.

Gosh Paul, sure glad I didn't get to go on a field trip there. Must have been many years ago as it has been Miami products for decades.

The Focke family lived on Kenwood Ave, near Salem Ave, in Dayton View, a few houses from where I lived from '58 to '66. Super nice family. We knew them for years before from church, Corpus Christi parish.

Correction. I lived at 556 Kenwood from '49 to '58, not '58 to '66.

Best ham and sausage you could buy bar none and their lunch meats were great too. We bought our meats for our restaurant from there until they closed down. That was almost 35 years ago and I've not been able to find a smoked ham to come close to theirs. They were a class act and good people!

Joey have no idea if East Dayton meats on Smithville would have what your looking for. Its on the same rd that Larricks is. Haven't been there in years but do buy their products in the stores.

LMD We used their sausage to make our own Italian sausage for our pizzas and sausage sandwiches. I still go their for their own Italian sausage since I don't make my own anymore. Their lunch meats and ham salad are pretty good and their prices are very reasonable.

I sold groceries at Walls small store in Hells half Acre. The Focke's meat man was always bringing us great lunch meat. Pepper loaf was my favorite. I sliced it to order on a Hobart slicer and weighed it on a Hobart scale. Damn, it was good!!

bigken13 You're absolutely right their Pepper Loaf was the best and I haven't found anything close to theirs. It's a shame at how low the quality of all meats in this day have got to!

Big difference in the taste of many things like chicken, hamburger, steak etc. Probably the reason the lunch meats were way better.
The oldest of us remember when food had good taste and texture but younger generations have no clue and just get used to what's put in front of them.
