after reaqding the posting about the Parkmoor chicken. It made me very curious. I was a little kid when my family would go to visit my uncle in Dayton. I remember going there and loving the taste
of that chicken. I recently went to The Hasty Tasty on Linden Ave. which is supposed to be the exact item. It was very good. The waitress told me she gets asked if it's the same chicken all the time. She said it was. Of course who knows, It's the mystery of it all. Speaking of mysterys, does anyone remember a Rock and Roll club called the 'The Pysodelic Grape'? I think it was on Gettysburg.

OK all you parkmoor fans. March 12th at the Fricker's in Huber I will be preparing the true Parkmoor chicken. I got thre recipoe from one of the original owners 15 - 20 years ago. He was 91 at the time. I have been preparing it for several years. We are going to try and do the Parkmoor dinner on the second Thursday of each month. I only need to know if you are coming. We are making a breast, wing, leg and thigh with the crinkle fries and slaw.($6.99 per dinner) Just like
Parkmoor did it. I guarantee it is the actual recipe.Just email if you are coming. I have enough for 32 orders this Thursday and about 20 are taken. Still room for 12 more. Jeff

Such is life! ... I just joined this site on March 13th and missed the chicken. We used to eat at the Stroop Road and Woodman Drive locations.

Besides the chicken, I remember the fun and informative paper placemats ... things like "Presidents of the U.S.", "Guide to stain removal", puzzles and more.

Does anyone know of someone (or their family) that was involved with Parkmoor. I am interested in photos - buildings, car hop stations, placemats, etc.

GHCMAN: You have found the HOLY GRAIL for the Dayton History Books Site!!!!

People on this place will pay good money for that Dixie Fried Chicken Recipe!!! Ask JeffN and all the others. Look at the Dayton 60's 70's site and all you read is Parkmoor, Parkmoor,....

Max, notify the car guys and all the others!!! We will all pool our money and be satisfied with this find!

I loved that chicken, and it has stayed in my taste buds since I was a kid. The gal who was a car hop, not so much I think.

Do you guys remember the super FLAT smashed down sponges they would include in a child's chicken or hamburger dinner in a basket? When you put it in water, it would blow up to be ginormous and have an advertisement of ... get ready:

PARKY!!!

Dave and I are going to open a diner and call it the Parkmoor...should be a money making venture, no matter what we sell, don't you all think? We shall serve tamales.

I worked at Hail n Hearty (on Dayton-Xenia in B'creek) right after it opened in the fall of '78. The manager/owner had been at Parkmoor & it was Parkmoor's recipe. Everyone ordered it! Unfortunately I was so tired of feeling "greasy" I could never eat it when I worked there!

Is the Parkmoor Chicken at Fricker's confirmed to be a monthly event beyond May 14?

I'm torn between getting an early start on a driving vacation that evening, or coming to eat chicken before starting the drive!!!

Bob if you ever decide to sell the recipe I for one would buy. I am living in California now but used to go to the one on Woodman by Dorothy Lane. Fantastic chicken - none better. I will plan my next trip back to Dayton to coincide with the Frickers chicken night.

Red Barn had good chicken, too.

I worked at McDonald's at Salem and Grand when they were a test market for Fried Chicken! For being frozen, it was a great product. Quality was a problem, though, because we could not estimate demand and it didn't have a real long holding time after being fried.

Due to Dale Huffman's story on Parkmoor I was told that there was a line around the building at 5 tonight. It sounds like the person they interviewed may have found the info on this site and that got the ball rolling. Let's hope so! It is always nice to think that our site (I call it our site meaning all of you here on this blog) is helping history stay alive and well in Dayton. Keep up the good work and please continue to meet here every chance you can. I am working on a "smell-o-vision" version of the site, like the old movies, that will have the scent of Parkmoor chicken whenever you visit...

I am all for the advertising of the Parkmoor chicken night. Judging by the response, they need to start expanding it. My husband and I were delayed on I-75 North by a dead car in the middle of the road and so....no chicken. The thing is, and this is just my opinion, if Frickers goal is to increase their business, it sure would be nice if the wait staff could benefit from it. Most of that chicken went out the door in carry out orders - so no tips for the wait staff and no chicken for those who actually showed up to eat in the place. Plus they missed out on all the drink orders too. I hope the person who is connected with Frickers sees this. The Parkmoor chicken could be a gigantic boon to thier business but not if the way they handle it upsets customers who travel out of their area to get it. ( I heard a lot of negative comments in the parking lot.) I would like to join a campaign for Parkmoor chicken at least twice a month if not more!!!!

It is just too bad that Dale's column wasn't in an earlier paper to give Fricker's some time to prepare for a crowd. Not fair to Jeff at Fricker's when he can only prepare a certain number of chickens.
This should make Fricker's people aware of the gold mine they have with the Parkmoor chicken and maybe they will see the wisdom of every Sunday Parkmoor chicken at all area Frickers.

Got there about 4:50 and got one of the last free tables. The wait staff were friendly and seemed overwhelmed at times, but we appreciate the owner providing this service. We heard a few complaints, but people had to realize the newspaper article informed a lot of people who might not be there tonight and they did say as long as the product lasts.
I thought the taste was close to the real thing, and then my wife reminded me that they probably used trans fats back in the day. Thanks again Frickers. Keep up the good work. Still like to see it south of town too.

I stumbled across an ad for Parkmoor in a 1969 Dayton Daily newspaper a couple days ago... was surprised to see they listed 14 Parkmoor's... For some reason, I thought there were only maybe 6-8 of them.

I was the L'il Mikey that lived acrossed the street from the Parkmoor on Valley St.
There has never been Fried Chicken like the "Pixie Dixie Golden Fried Chicken" since. (Because of that I'm not so "L'il" anymore.) Pat (the last manager) had the recipe, (which I may still have). I think it was the .......... that made it unique. But, I'll never tell. (I was made to promise). We used to sit in my Dad's place "Chuck's Swap Shop" and eat all that was left over at night.

Well, as you can see the response to the Dale Huffman story was a bit overwhelming. I will appologize to anyone that was unable to get the Parkmoor chicken. As someone stated we should have limited it to dine in only and we will be doing just that on September 10th. After the 10th we will be moving it to a Sunday only event that will start at noon and last til they are gone. We are looking to expand this to a couple of other Fricker's in the near future but at this time it will be limited to the Huber location only. When we expand I will post the new locations. Thanks to all that came and please contact me @ jcarter16@woh.rr.com if there is anything I can do for you. Thanks, Jeff

I didn't think anyone liked Parkmoor chicken as much as I did. I worked at Top Value Enterprises during the '70s and Parkmoor was across the street on Woodman. I quite literally ate their chicken every other day for six years. I had started eating it in the '60s and continued until the last store closed. Just before it closed, I interviewed one of the remaining, elderly brothers who founded Parkmoor on WING radio. His office was on Woodman right next to Top Value's corporate headquarters. This was in 1984.

ghcman, please bring it to the 725 store.

Do we have to call ahead and place a carryout order so you don't run out? I'll be driving from Centerville, a long way even for Parkmoor chicken. And does calling ahead mean quicker service?

Whilst visiting Dayton, on October the 8th, my brother-in-law took us to the Huber Heights (Frickers??) for Parkmoor Dixie-Fried chicken. It was really, really good, not expensive and was served in red plastic baskets on paper, just like the old days. The event was very well attended.
