As a pre teen, the manager of the Lawson's store on Xenia Ave., and St. Joseph Ave., would pay us $2.00 to pass out flyers in the neighborhood. The only commercial I remember on TV was, "Roll On Big O, get that juice up to Lawson's in 40 hours".

Didn't all the local Lawson stores change their name and continue to operate for a few years? Dairy Mart, maybe? There are still Lawson stores in, of all places, Japan by the way.

The Lawson's I remember was in Xenia, on Cincinnati Ave just diagonally across the street from St, Brigid's Church. In the early 60s, few stores were open on Sunday, so we'd often stop at the Lawson's for milk, eggs, bread or whatever it was we needed for breakfast after Mass. The 73 tornado flattened St. Brigid's, but the store (or at least the building) is still there.

That building has housed numerous buniesses over the years after Lawsons. It's been a butcher shop, a beauty parlor, a dry cleaner, and at least three different small diners that didn't last long. Last I saw it was a soul food place, but I think that might have closed as well.

Dad would take me to the Lawsons on Linden Ave, near Spinning Rd and we'd get rod pretzels kept in a glass jar near the cash register. When I was 4 I spilled a half gallon carton of Lawsons milk trying to make breakfast for my 2 year old sister and me! I can still see that blue & white carton...

Billd1952 mentions the Lawson's at Xenia and St. Joseph. That store was a nice addition to the neighborhood because it replaced a derelict building that had been a Sunbeam Bakery. I enjoyed Bild1952's memory of the Lawson manager paying to distribute neighborhood ads. I was in my early teens when the store was built but remember that manager. We called him Jim Lawson - never knew his real last name. He was quite a good guy; always was nice to the kids in the neighborhood. Some of the independent store owners in the area tolerated us kids stopping in for candy and ice cream bars, but Jim really seemed to like us. He always was in good humor and took the time to talk with us.

There used to be a Lawson's on Fishburg Rd in Huber Heights near Troy Pike. Great chipped chopped ham.

"Now one man sleeps while the other man drives on the nonstop Lawson run,
And the fresh, fresh juice in the tanktruck cabbose, fresh from the Florida sun.
Roll On Big O, get that juice up to Lawsons in 40 hours."

I "honored" Lawsons by naming a cop in my Dayton-centric novel "Jimmy Lawson"

I lived in Belmont and went to the Lawson's on Waitervielt near Smithville. I use to buy these cute little dollhouse sized dolls there, only place I could find them. I had several of them.
