Yes, they were all drive in resturants. There was also Country Kitchens. The Frich's in Moraine, at Springboro and South Dixie, used to be a Country Kitchen. It burned down in the late 50's, and Frish's
bought the location and opened a Frish's.

We used to tool around from country kitchen on keowee to Parkmoor on Shroyer and once in awhile down to Frisches. Glad gas was cheap then. That was the only way you could find out who was still together or who was now available as word got around there quickly. Those were the good old days.

Great places back in late 60's to find girls too, especially if you had a nice car. People would tell me "She's only dating you because of your car" and I never could figure out what was wrong with that? Worked for me HA HA

There was a Frisch's in Trotwood and I lived in Trotwood but for whatever reason I always went to the Frisch's on Salem Ave.
the only other thing I can say about Frisch's is; SWISS MISS, my favorite burger. Are they still in existence?

Yes, Frischs is still in business. There are probably at least a dozen or more in the Dayton/Cincinnati/N. KY area. I think there are, or at least were, Frischs in TN as well.

Frischs is one of a number of regional franchise holders from Big Boy. In my travels I've see Bobs, Manners, Shoneys, Elbys, JBs and maybe a couple more, although not sure all of them are still in operation or affiliated with the Big Boy brand.

If you'll notice, I said those I posted were the ones I'd seen in my travels. What I posted were personal recollections, not a treatise on the Big Boy brand.

We have a Frisch's here in Somerset, Ky., and it's really pretty lousy. Nothing like the ones in Dayton/Cincinnati in the 60s and 70s.

I just visited Dayton and we ate there three times. My little girl loves the veggie soup. My wife eats the french toast and says it's a great place to people watch. LOL

I guess it pretty much depends on how you remember what and which experiences you may have had. I always saw a big difference between Hasty Tasty, Parkmoor and Frisch’s (as far as a hangout) I guess if you were an adult and judging the food, prices and ambience the three could seem quite similar, except Frisch’s always had the best chili, onion rings and cherry cokes..lol. As far as cruising and hanging some were way cooler than others. I learned a very valuable lesson at Hasty Tasty, never date a waitress and a car hop that work in the same place :-( I guess overall if I had to pick my two favorite places it would be Parkmoor Shroyer and the Country Kitchen at Wilmington Pike and Dorothy Lane.. Fun times and great memories.

RIVERDALE - My best lesson was from Frisches on Keowee. I tried for a couple of nights to get a date with this great looking girl that would park next to my corvette, Finally talked her into going to the drive-in. Lesson??? Do NOT ask someone out that is sitting in a car when you CANNOT see the rest of them. Did have a great personality though and it turned out OK. I was so shallow back then.

tlturbo...Good to see you are still on here. Yeah, she probably got a lot of dates that way. We were all so shallow back then (girls too) I remember if a guy looked the least bit geeky, he had a rough time ever getting a date. In retrospect, I don't think it was US that actually cared so much as the peer pressure that we felt to stay "cool" Nobody wanted to be seen with anything but a super hot chick. I never was a real motor head so I wasn’t much competition in the hot rod division, I used to cruise with a few friends that had hot cars, but my first car at age 16 was a 59 Studebaker, it was good transportation but you wasn’t going to pick up girls in it (unless they were hitchhiking in the rain) After a year of Atta Boy shifts and working weekend matinees at theatres, I was able to graduate to a 64 Dart, it was cherry, but it wasn’t a rod. I can remember how everyone used to say that it looked like it just came off of the showroom floor. It was bronze (which I hated because it reminded me of a casket) with jet black upholstery and it only had like 16K on it. I paid $850 bucks for it and after the 10 day tag expired, it sat in a garage for a month until I could afford tags and insurance..Those days are gone forever.

hunt69..Thanks for dropping in, yep I guess we were. I can remember worrying if some of the girls I was talking to on the beep line were as hot as they sounded or if they were overweight and I can remember when one girl from Huber Heights refused to date me because I didn't wear bell bottoms...lol.

Glad to see you too RAT. I was at a car show Mem Day and there was a (supposedly original) Hemi Dart parked next to me BUT it had a 572 (?) cu in Hemi in it and if it was an original Hemi Dart, would be worth a LOT more $$ with an old 426 hemi in it. Pretty cool though.

Yeppers, if that was original it would have been worth a few bucks. I am trying to remember which engine mine had, it was a 4 door, 8 cyl, hardtop for sure, it wasn't a GT and of course I vividly remember the push button transmission. Like I said, I never was much of a motor head..lol

tlturbo... ARE..THERE..ANY..GIRLS..ON..THE..LINE.

I remember Beep Line like it was last night..lol. I never had much luck with anything long lasting, but I met a lot of cool girls (some not so cool and some just plain weird) and hooked up on a lot of dates. Nowadays something like that wouldn’t even be safe to use, every stalker and freakazoid in the State would be all over it..Sigh..

RAT - YEP - talking in between the beeps. Then getting a phone number to call back. Do you ever wonder what happened to people you met from back then? I have at least a dozen friends from back then (M & F) that I would love to find. I'm a retired computer analyst and pretty good at finding stuff on the internet but some people just disappeared. Wish more people would discover this site and say "HEY - I remember you". Glad to see you back.

Tlturbo..YES, I sure do wonder what happened to a LOT of people from the bygone days. As you said it seems like some people just drop off of the face of the earth. Women are always a bit harder to locate than Men, because they marry and change their last names so without an accurate date of birth and/or a social security number even a PI can have a difficult time. One thing for sure, Most of us are scattered to the 4 corners of the Nation. I Google search or facebook names every now and then as I recall them or when a certain old memory crosses my mind and to be honest, I haven’t found anyone. I sometimes think that is the way the Lord intended it to be so we will move on in our lives and put the past behind us. As long as our minds hold out, we at least have our memories.

I have found many old friends by doing just what you said. I wish I lived in Dayton so I could get access to county birth records. There is one gal that was a friend when I was away at boot camp that helped me out a lot by writing. Dated a bit and I would love to find her and tell her how much she helped me through a difficult time. Last record I can find for her was on the 68 & 69 city directory. Can't find her in schools in the area, have no idea if she moved away or married in the area. Would love to find some of the car guys too. Lonnie Bombeck (maroon vette), Jim Mallory silver 396 Chevelle, Mike Shepard black 69 Nova SS.

My parents had gotton their first new car in yrs which was a yellow and white 1956 Plymouth belvedere that had the push button transmission also. That was my cruising around town and through the Parkmor, Frisches and Country kitchen. Bad thing was back then the cars would be fine mechanically but were eaten up with rust and didn't last many years. Now the
bodies last much longer and if you keep up with regular maintenance can last for years.

luv my Dayton… I didn’t know you were part of the ol cruising alumni..lol. Yes I remember the dreaded rust monster, it used to be especially bad on rocker panels and wheel wells. I think the rust in those days was caused by the salt they used to use on the roadways/streets, at least that’s what everyone said. Yes I had totally forgotten that the old Belvederes also had push button transmissions. For some reason that concept never seemed to catch on, I thought they were cool, still do actually.

tlturbo... Sometimes High school reunions/alumni pages are a good source for finding people, but you have to have a school name and graduation year or at least an idea of the years they attended. Some alumni’s keep sites that try to give updates such as when members or teachers pass away, etc. Meadowdale has a site like that at mhslion.com I ran across that one by accident a few years back, I haven’t looked for others. Do you recall which High School the Huber Heights crowd attended, was it mad River Township, because that’s all my old rusty brain is conjuring up. BTW..do you happen to recall the name of that big supermarket that sat a couple of doors up from the old Hasty Tasty on Salem?

RAT - I wasn't a N Dayton person. Was only there if I was dating someone there otherwise the Parkmore on N Main at Forest Park was about as far North as I went.

This gal lived across the side street from the old Tropics Restaurant. There is a Pharmacy there now.
To compound matters, I believe she lived with her mother, don't remember a man so no idea what last name the mother was using. AND I believe according to another poster on here, they probably rented as the house was owned by an elderly lady. They moved to Kettering around 68. Not positive what year or school she graduated. Probably 66-68?? and maybe Julienne or Col White?? for that area?

We used to call those push button shifts Candy-matics. I think the official name was something similar.

tlturbo...LOl, I know you gear grinders didn't have any use for autos and I can only imagine how you must have felt about the push button crowd.

Do you remember if the girl was Catholic or not? If she was, she almost surely went to Julienne. If not, I doubt she attended there. Colonel White is a good possibility if you recall her last name, and approximate year of school attendance I would try and go the alumni route. The other option would be to start a thread on here and see what pops up.

Autos stunk back in the 60's BUT they have come a long way. My GN has an auto and I wouldn't trade it for a stick for anything. You now play with the stall rpm in the converter and the lack of rpm loss on a shift keeps a turbo from dropping boost. Kind of like an old power shift.

This little 231 cu in V6 with an auto & 342 gears is almost 2 secs quicker in the 1/4 than my 69 427 435 hp vette with 4 speed & 456 gears. AND it gets almost 20 mpg vs 8-10 in the vette. AH technology.

Girls name was Theresa (Teri) Bray and not sure about being Catholic. Guessing she graduated about 65-67. Knew her in 66 and can't remember if she was still in HS.

There is no shortage of people named Terri Bray, if you had a middle name or initial, that would narrow it down a bunch. The only one in Dayton comes back to 7211 Tarryton Rd- 45459. I’m not sure if this is the same one that lists her last school as Sinclair Community College and apparently graduated from Wayne High. Apparently she worked at the Post Office.

There is a Terri Bray Kersey, which currently lives in Cincinnati, she is also on facebook, but unless she holds her age well she looks a tad young.

There is also a Terri Shovlain- Bray on facebook that has friends from Ohio and a couple that graduated from Ohio Colleges. Either Shovlain or Bray is her married name if its Shovlain, she could be a possibility. It appears that she now lives in Katy Texas. A ton of people migrated to Texas in the 70s and 80s. I'm sure none of these is the right one, but it's seems to be what is out there right now.

Middle initial was Y I believe. At least that is what is listed on the City Directory. Worked at Lerners 1968 and Cassanos 1969. 1968 has initial Y, 1969 has no initial and Teresa not Theresa. Been through facebook but didn't see anyone that might be her. Still looking.

tlturbo...Y should narrow it down. You have to keep checking facebook every so often because people change their search settings from time to time. There is a setting you can use on facebook where your page wont show up in a public search. Also remember some old timers still use My Space.

There always have been shallow people and yes we all had some of that going back in 50s and 60s. What should make us feel good is look at the shallow taking place in the 21st century. By the way I had 4 friends I ran with back in 60s who did cruise a lot through the haunts of Dayton but what made us stand out was we wore beanies with bottle caps attached and a spinner on top and major big sunglasses. Girls no less! Called ourselves the Rocket turtles which we still refer to today when we sign off of a communication.

Hawk: do agree with your analysis of Frisches and Parkmoor. Chicken was great. As for Frisches you found me every Saturday and Sunday at the Woodman Dr Frisches having breakfast with my husband at that time. Have found over the years that the food has changed and my visits are few.

hawks46… I forgot all about the pork tenderloin, those were pretty tasty with a big slice of tomato, lettuce and mayo. My favorite pork tenderloin was at the old Clickety Clack Restaurant (they also had a mean breaded veal cutlet) Back before the major consumption craze seemed to sweep America, a regular Big Boy was a super Big Boy, meaning nobody would have dreamed of eating something larger.

My favorite Frisch’s sandwich was the Swiss Miss, actually all it was/is, is a Brawny Lad with sauce and minus the slice of onion. I recall when they first came out with it. I also loved the Big Boys, Chili, Onion Rings and cherry cokes, I hated their fries (crinkle cut and tasted frozen)

My most beloved memory of Frisch’s was how they would always have Apple Cider and Pumpkin Pie available at every store all through autumn, that’s a tradition that is still alive in our house today. For those of you whom life has deposed down Florida way, remember there are Frisch’s Big Boy Franchises in Orlando and several other cities. I used to practically live in the one on east Colonial Drive.

It is really funny that since I spent many waking, non-working hours at Frisches, Parkmoor and Country Kitchen in 66-72, I can't remember a thing about their food. I guess other topics were more on my mind than eating. Cars and girls mainly. I DO remember mixing slo gin and 7-up at the Kitchen so they thought we were drinking cherry 7-ups. Eat at the Frisches in Englewood occasionally when in town.

Lol... You have to remember that I was hanging out in Frisch's back when I wouldn't be caught dead talking to a girl. My Grandmother worked at the mainliner on Reading Road when I was knee high to a grasshopper. My first memory of Frisch's was refusing to eat a bite of a Big Boy because I hated the sauce. I did forget all about the pork tenderloin though.
