Hi,
I'm new to this website and I've been all over it (love it) and I came across the NCR article and its location and it speaks of numerous neighborhoods including Slidertown (never heard of it) But in today's time, where in Dayton would Slidertown be located? Maybe if you could provide a major intersection that I could google. The article spoke of Slidertown (back in the day being filled with thieves, thugs, etc) I'd like to know which part of Dayton its referring to. Thanks

Tbone: Use the "Site Search" link on the home page of this site and search for "Slidertown". I think that will give you some pretty good ideas of where it was.

I searched here for information about Slidertown and found some interesting facts.
NCR was built near what was Slidertown. The Patterson property in the south of Dayton, where he built his new factory, just happened to be near one of the worst neighborhoods in the city. The homes were run down, the streets were ill kept, fences needed mending, and yards were overgrown. “Slidertown” was not a pleasant place to live and yet many of his employees owned or rented homes there.
From what I read here on this site it seems Mr Patterson didn't believe that it was a neighborhood worthy of his employees so Mr. Patterson decided to improve the area. Using the factory property as an example, he distributed pamphlets in the community offering NCR’s help to the residents to improve their property.Met with skepticism at first, but when he made his groundskeepers available for planting and as instructors, offered Sunday landscaping lectures on company property, offer seed, shrubs, trees and other plants to the resident at cost, slowly Slidertown began to improve. Over time the area became a show place community. It had its own community center, library and adult school. Property values rose to become among the best in Dayton and the neighbor became one of the most desirable places in Dayton to live. To celebrate the transformation the name was even changed from Slidertown to “South Park.”
That is the story of where Slidertown was located!

I am truly disappointed as well as others are that NCR has abandoned Dayton. Gosh, I remember so well that anytime during the day or night you drove through the building maze of NCR: CRASH, BOOM, BANG, CLATTER. The machinery just humming along with people everywhere. All night long the factory sounds just ringing out. If I walk down those streets now I swear I can hear the ghosts of NCR. Dayton made what NCR is today.

Thanks for the info on what the site search is about. First time using it as the 'slidertown' comment interested me. All kinds of interesting information and really had never heard that term before. Patterson was a genius overall and can see why Dayton grew to be the city it was. He did so much for this town in many ways and was right there to help during the 1913 flood. Imagine the area called slidertown was hit hard which made their lot in life worse. Will have to access this site more often.
