I remember the game and the day. I was 17 yrs. old and was with my brother in law and visiting the neighborhood I grew up in which was right next to the stadium. But I thought it was a snow blizzard and not rain. It was a total disaster! But thanks for the memories.

JJCoMAINE I thought I remember a salesman that worked there named Ted. He was always dressed to the 9's very distinguished looking. I Shopped there and always tried to buy from him. And I remember the store at Hills and Dales.

JoeyM: You are correct about the name, Ted. He was a part-timer, who worked the Monday/Thursday evening shift (Dunhill's was open 'till 9PM on those evenings, as was most of the downtown stores), and most Saturday's. His "real" job was as a full-time salesman for a non-competing supply company.

And, you are correct about the attire. He always had at least 2-piece, sometimes 3-piece, suit - the rest of us usually wore sport coats and slacks.

Ted was one of my "tutors" during my break-in days. I remember one evening, during my first or second week "on duty", sitting on the sock-counter, with my feet dangling. I was wearing white sox (yeah, that was REALLY en-Vogue). Ted was across the aisle - he said to me, "what the heck do you have on your feet, besides your shoes?". It only took about 2 minutes to reach behind me for a pair od dress socks and make the change (I did pay for them).

They also had a store on, I believe, West Third St., and one in the East end, somewhere. I do remember calling the stores, from time-to-time, in search of merchandise that we didn't have in stock downtown (color, size, etc.).

And, you may be correct on the "blizzard and not rain" issue. I just remember that the weather was totally and absolutely miserable.

I remember watching the parade on a live local broadcast. It had to be one of the nastiest early December days ever in Dayton. JJCofMAINE remembered rain and cold, but I remember wind and huge snowflakes during the parade. It was nearly a whiteout on TV.

I'd go to a bowl game at Welcome in 2014. Couldn't be much worse than some of the crappy bowl games today. Just not warm, but that's the whole point of football. Rock on.

Aviation bowl was not at ud it was a game put together by a local group and they lost money.Weather was real bad and it messed up the parade also. The crowd was around four thousand and they were free at that point. It was not a bad idea because there were not a lot of bowls for small conferences. It was a crap shoot all the way.Natural turf at the end of year city schools playing al year left field a mess. Ibelieve team from Mich was one team.

Oops! My bad. Yes, it was played at Welcome Stadium. That's what I get for not making sure before I posted.

Now, the question is, what game was I thinking about?
I don't ever recall attending a UD regular season game back then.

Olds88: In 1961, my senior year at Chaminade, CHS defeated Fairmont, I believe 14-6, a game played at Baujan. I don't believe you could have squeezed too many more people into that stadium. It was quite a scene for high school football.

I have nothing but a vague recollection that there was such an idea.

Here is my two cents worth on the Aviation Bowl...My brother and I attended in a driving snow at Welcome Stadium on Sat afternoon.....the only reason Western Michigan was there is Bowling Green was the actual winner of the mac, but went to the Mercy Bowl in California to raise money for the team in California which had a game with BG the previous year CRASHED with all passengers lost.
