Besides being at the only traffic circle I had ever seen, the Bargain Barn was the first real "discount" store I remember. Big old barn-shaped building with anything and everything you could imagine (for a little kid anyway). We drove past it a lot making the circle to go places. It wasn't like the stores downtown, that we had to get dressed up to go to. You can still find places like that on side roads way out in the country. It reminds me of the "small town" atmosphere Dayton had back in the 50's. It was a great place to grow up. I miss that today and wish my kids could have experienced that.

donm, I remember the bargain barn and the traffic circle. I still live in the Dayton area. I believe the building is still there. Kind of a flea market place I think. The traffic circle has been modified. It's not a circle anymore but you still go around the same area. I saw some of your other posts on this site. I was born in 1950 also. Lived in east dayton until we moved to Vandalia when I was about 11.

There was also a Bargain Barn on Linden Ave., just west of Spinning Rd., next to McDonalds.

I remember the Bargain Barn at the traffic circle very well. We shop there a lot back in the 60's. Rickety old place back then. I remember the floors being very uneven.

I remember BB somewhat. Lived in the area in 1970 (a bit north of needmore). I can't quite figure if it was Bargain Barn or Goldman's? Are they the same building? Didn't Goldman's have their name in huge white letters on the roof?

I never went there, but I remember "Kash's Big Bargain Barn.....in New Lebanon, Ohio" commercials on te radio. jfox, sounds like we may have a lot of similar memories. I lived in the DeWeese Park area, near Northridge. Went to Queen of Martyrs for grade school, then Chaminade, and then UD. Left in '72 and been mostly in TX ever since. Sure miss the "old days".

Bargain Barns were always Goldman's Bargain Barns, as far asd I can remember. The Goldmans were good people.

donm, I beleive that Kash's Big Bargain Barn was in South Lebanon, Ohio. It is now a thrift store.

We went to the Bargan Barn quite frequently. My Dad really enjoyed our trips there. I was always ready to leave. On a humerous side note. Back then I played summer baseball in class B. Our sponser one year was the Bargin Barn. Each and every one of us had a barn on our back with a cow sticking it's head out of the hay loft. We couldn't believe it but we wore them anyway because we loved to play baseball. Any one out there remember those uniforms. It may help to know that I graduated from Colonel White in 1965.

You got me laughing with your story Dave. The shirt I am sure was embarrassing for you but cute anyway. Reminds me of the movie where Billy Bob Thornton was a coach of a youth ball team and the shirts provided were advertizing a strip club..

Donm, I remember the traffic circle and the Bargain Barn, too. It is too bad that the circle is gone. Now, Welder4, I remember Willie Thall on Midwestern Hayride out of Cincinnati on those Crosly stations. (or is it Crosley?) The cloggers are what impressed me the most on that show.

As a kid in the early 60's we used to go to the Bargain Barn every now and then. We mainly shopped at Beerman's. But I know my parents liked the BB.

I also remember Willie Thall. Wasn't he Ruth Lyons's brother? I also remember sitting up all night on the weekends and watching "Shock Theater".

I got that beat about the little league names. I was on a team sponsored by Swartz's Funeral Home in West Carrollton. We were called the Little Digger's. When I was 10 I didn't understand the humor. People would look at my shirt and just start laughing.

I remember Bargain Barn on Salem Ave.. It was Huge ( at least to a child like me ) . The shopping center where it was located is still there I do believe. I don't know what's there now, but I recall my mother taking us to Bargain Barn for back to school shopping..

update: Ok, I was told that it was Shoppers Fair that was on Salem, not Bargain Barn... Anybody remember Shoppers Fair on Salem?
