Who remembers the model railroad in the train station? When our family lived in Greeville originally, we would come to Dayton (the big city, then) and shop. No trip to Dayton was complete unless we went to the train station to see the miniature railroad. There were big windows on 2 sides; the railroad was set up permanently on a corner with 2 walls. It was O-gauge and the rails were powered with a third rail along side the 2 live rails. Both trolleys and steam trains ran on the layout. It was a big layout. I could stand there and watch for hours. It must have been removed in 1965(?), or so. I think the man responsible for it was a member of a club and when the layout was removed, he took the equipment and installed it in his home's basement where the club would then meet. There was an article in the Dayton Daily News quite sometime back. What a great memory!

I,like you ,spent many hours staring at that layout hoping someone would show up to run it.I believe the lay out was moved to a club members house in Miamisburg.Ihad read the same article you had.The old section of that station should not have been torn down.

I've never been inside Union Station, but, I do remember the train layout at Rikes during the holidays, and the Boys Club had a nice layout as well.

I have attended 3 train shows this year, and the layouts are awsome.
