I thought some might find it interesting to read an article dated 12-6-2013, from tmagazine, part of the NY Times.
The 10 World's Greatest are restaurants and the Pine Club is listed in that group. Included in the article is a photo from 1947, the year it opened and a link to the Pine Club website.
I'll repeat what I've said before, it was always my favorite when I lived in Dayton and it seems there are many others that feel the same.
Included is a link to copy and paste into your browser: http://tmagazine.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/12/06/food-matters-10-of-the-worlds-greatest-old-dining-institutions/

Not surprised they were mentioned. I have lived here all my life and have never eaten there myself but their reputation has always been good. Glad they have been able to continue as so many places I have been to are long gone.

Eat there regularly and has always been my favorite! They are old school type of restaurant. Having been in the business I will never understand why these new restaurants want to charge you extra for a salad that should be part of the meal. Pine club gives you your entre plus salad, potato and veggy with their famous onion straws Wow I'm getting hungry. Might have to go down and get one of their great hambugers!

Also you can get those great burgers uncooked to-go.Years ago you could go to the back door certain days of the week and they would have them already packaged for you.I think you can get all cuts of beef there now.

Went to a restaurant in Austin and didn't see much of anything of interest but was with a large group and ordered. Needless to say the meal was terrible you didn't get a salad but did get a small basket of bread. For the price they were charging they should have played live music at our table. I was furious but held my temper or they would have been wearing my meal. Funny how people get used to bad food. Its nice to know you have places in your town who have managed to please for decades.

I almost forgot to comment on the stewed tomatoes, thats right I said stewed tomatoes. Their stewed tomatoes are just about as well known as their steaks and burgers. I took a friend of mine there and recommended he get the stewed tomatoes and he immediately said,NO WAY,that he hated tomatoes of any kind. So I ordered an extra side and when they came out I talked him into trying them. Long story short when I see him now we talk about the stewed tomato story. Oh yea he orders them every time he goes there now. "GREAT MEMORIES"

Another long standing place to eat is Treasure Island supper club down near the old GM. They also have stewed tomatoes on the weekend and really have great food. Rather small but they too have a regular crowd.Place that surprised me is the closing of Grub Steak. Downtown is another place with good food is the Spaghetti Warehouse. Actually a large place good service and overall fun just to see some of the old nostalgic treasures from the past. Guess we should be thankful we still have some of our old standbys. Keep all of them busy and they all should be around awhile.

You are absolutely right about the Treasure Island and I'm pretty sure they get their steaks from the same source as The Pine Club. Pork chops are killer and dont overlook the frog legs. Great signature salad dressing.
