Everyone be careful in Ohio tonight and tomorrow. Looks like it could get pretty nasty there. I remember the Blizzard, I think 1976, What a terrible storm that was. Tlturbo and myself are enjoying mid 70's today.

Not to downplay how serious a winter storm can be. But it has been my experience in my short 47 years when weathermen hype a storm, it usually makes a direction turn and ends up being not much of anything. Or when its downplayed as not much to worry about. That is when it hits hard. Which is typical for Ohio weather. If you don't like it. Stick around a bit and it will change. Yes, we have been lucky in this area as far as winters go. But for me, its a case I will believe it when its on the ground. For this storm, we'll see.

Definitely remember that blizzard.Husband had to take the glass out of bottom of storm door to get to garage for the shovel. Next he got the sled and we walked up the street to the grocery. Not much left there but did get some frozen dough so I could bake bread. Left many people stranded as took forever for plows to clear many roads.

Had a Trans-Am and made a stop at the Alibi after working second shift. It was raining when I got there and too many hours later it was bad.I was the only one there that tried to make it home the rest stayed all night and I made it about three miles to just past the mall to where I lived at the time.Absolutly don't know how I made it as you could not see anything.

Yeah, winters are brutal. Down here in Orlando, the temperature is supposed to drop all day Monday, eventually hitting 32 deg. (with a wind chill of 21 deg.). BRRR!

I don't miss Ohio winter weather. I remember the Blizzard of '78 very well. Our home was L-shaped, with our cars parked in the garage. The drifts from the storm extended from the roof of the house well into the driveway. In order to gain access to our cars, I had to dig out the snow drift by chopping the drift into blocks of snow/ice, which I had to carry to the yard. What a backbreaking effort that was.

63 degrees at the farm near Smithfield, VA yesterday morning. 8 degrees at that same time today. No need to miss Ohio today, it's just like being there!

One thing that always amused me about cold snaps in Florida vs. extreme cold snaps in Ohio was when the evening news gives the health and pet care warnings, etc. The kind of warnings that I remember whenever the temperature was in single digits in Ohio are the same warnings given in Florida when it gets near freezing.

It's all relative, though. Living in Dayton, I was better prepared for cold weather with layered clothing, winter coats, etc. A lot of people in Florida really aren't prepared for cold weather. I remember my first winter in Florida, when we had a frost. I still had my ice scraper, but I was amused watching people try to scrape the frost off their windshields with a credit card.

I can remember when my children were little and we had a spell of warmer weather probably in 40s the kids wanted to bring out their shorts. Heck to kids that was ringing in summer even if it was Feb.
