My mother (Muriel Wysenk) grew up in North Dayton. She was born in 1923. Her parents, Helen and Bill Wysenk (Wyszynski) owed the Bridge View Bar at 509 Ohio Street. I would like some memories of anyone who visited this bar. My uncle Bob Wysenk also worked at the bar. The era was 1950 to 1960

I remember the bar, but was never inside it. I wasn't old enough to drink and then left Dayton. My grandfather had a duplex next to it where he ran a Shoe Repair buisness. The other side was a Barber Shop. I spent a week every summer with my Grandparents and Aunts down on Ohio Street. Used to be a nice area. Not so much any more, sadly.

I know this isn't much help. But looking at Google maps. 501 Ohio St is a vacant lot now. Right there where Keowee and Valley St split. Ohio St. runs a very short distance between Keowee and Valley if that helps anybody out. Right Behind the Tony Stein memorial.

We lived at 418 Keowee St. until late 1952. This was just north of Ohio St. My father sometimes worked as a grill cook and bar tender, if needed when the regular person was off work, at several bars in this area. I remember going in the Bridge View once with him so he could pick up a pay check. There was Katey’s Kitchen on Keowee, Bridge View on Ohio and another just around the curve may have been on Troy St. I think it was owned by Frankie Ulakie (sp). I was only in second grade when we moved up to the 900 block of Troy St.
All of this was torn down when they put in route 75 and the new route 4 in the late 50’s. They had to move the monument for the war dead back toward Ohio if I remember right. . I don’t have any good memories of this for you, but maybe someone from old North Dayton will reply. Good Luck!!
