There was a man on Main St between 1st & Monument St., that stayed on the sidewalk most of the day every day selling pencils and doo-dads. Sometimes he might relocate near the news stand at the corner of Main St. & Main in front of Rikes. Most of the time he was at the earlier address. I think he had a wheelchair; maybe it was motorized. He never bothered anyone; just sold pencils. He was there for years. When I read the stories of Rags, it reminded me of this guy. He was in front of the building with Bucky's in it. Remember Bucky's Coins?

At times he was also at Third & Main in front of Mayor's.

One of the things I love about this blog is discovering tidbits of Dayton history that is "new" to me. The post by olds88 referred to a Custer wheel chair that prompted me to investigate further.

This research into the Custer Specialty Car Company led me to a 1996 article in the Dayton Business Journal written by Curt (http://www.bizjournals.com/dayton/stories/1996/11/04/editorial2.html?page=all).

Thanks Curt!
