Its a beautiful day so far and was glad to throw up the windows for fresh air. Many activities around the area and am glad for them not to expect bad weather. Was going up airway rd last night and along Paige manor it looked like a small cruise in was taking place and was wondering if it was some on this site? Years ago it seems there were dozens of them every week and used to go to them with husband at that time. One that sticks in my mind was over on Woodman Dr in Kettering at the Parkmoor. Now you pretty much have to go to the few big custom car shows available. Labor day at the Kettering Holiday at home will be a big display of beautiful automobiles which each one can take you back to your youth. A friend of mine has a beautiful classic Pontiac convertible just sitting in the garage and regularly starts it up and drives it around a bit. Nowadays its one gas guzzler after another that you cant see around them or over them and definitely cant see them ever being of value or fun in the future and probably wont draw a crowd at a cruise in.

I was with a couple friends the other day. One still has his '66 chevelle, the other has a jet blk '68 "Goat" GTO.
I think a lot of us,especially me, took for granted all the character and beauty of the great cars of our youth.
Seeing and riding them took me back to a time in my life I'll cherish forever. Unfortunately,I'll never see that time again.Ahhhh memories! To bad Frisch's is gone from Keowee!

Am sure back then I was cruising right by you and never knew it. That was one of the in places to be in late 50s early 60s as it was a nice way to kill time with no trouble and get a bite to eat on top of it. Good clean fun. That wouldn't work today as am sure there would be fights galore and a possible shoot out now and then and carhops getting mugged for their money.

I recall selling my '54 Chevy because of a minor problem. It didn" have a ding on it.I sold it for $25.00. I'd love to have it back. That was about '71 or so.
I didn't realize cars would start looking alike and have no character at all.

Hunt - bet we crossed paths a lot in the late 60's.

Still play with cars. As stated in many other posts, from 65 thru 71 I practically lived at the Country Kitchen, Frisches on Keowee, Parkmoor on N Main. Did that circuit several times a night. Occasionally hit Parkmoor on Airways (near home) and Frisches or a Parkmoor in Moraine. In order, light sky blue 61 Pontiac Royal Oak Bobcat tri-power, traded that for a silver 66 vette 427 convertible (put a radical L-88 engine in it), traded that in on a new 69 gold 427-435hp vette convertible and had the Egyptian put a radical paint job on it. Took that to FL in 72. Got into hot boats for many years as cars weren't the thing in FL. Got back in cars many years ago and have had 2 87 Buick turbo Grand Nationals. Hit the local cruise ins and went to a car show on Memorial Day.

hunt69 - Do you recall Ray Bryant Chevrolet on Brown St in 1969? I own a 69 Camaro that was sold new there. Maybe you recall it or seen it on the streets back then. Red Factory 427 automatic on column car.

69 427 Camaro with column shift? I thought the only 69 427 Camaros were the COPO ZL1's and the aftermarket Motion etc cars. I can't imagine they offered a steel block 427 Camaro with a column. Would love to know the engine RPO number (L79, L88, etc.
I bought an L88 shortblock from Ray Bryant for my 66 vette and my good friend Mike Shepard was a mechanic there. I ordered my new 69 427/435 from White Allen because of a better price.

Dayton was always a hot bed of nice cars and speed.FRom engine builders to whole car restorers. The area still holds its own on national scale.Cincinnatti street rods are very big as far as clubs.I hope younger people get interested so someone will take care of all the nice cars twenty years down the road.

tlturbo. 69 Camaro with factory installed iron 427 is COPO (corporate office production order)9561. Which would have L72 engine. About 800 produced.(199 were Yenkos) COPO 9560(ZL-1) would have all aluminum 427 engine. 69 produced. I was hoping someone may have remembered this car on the lot or on the streets of Dayton in late 69 and the 70s. Would like to know its history. Thank you for your reply.

Leonard - that is cool. I should remember it but don't as that was my cruising years in the above vette and before that a silver 66 with L88 shortblock in it.
I sold that gold 69 in FL in about 74 and have been trying to relocate it but no luck. I did some research and did find there were some 427 69 factory options besides the ZL1. I knew a guy in FL where I lived that ha a 69 ZL1 he raced.
